At this price, the Mustang's closest competition will be the BMW M2. Different cars but both ultimately desirable performance cars. Can the 18 now compete (if only in a straight line) with an M2?

On looks and sound YES, but not on build quality, reliability, point to point speed, dealer network............At this price, the Mustang's closest competition will be the BMW M2. RHD are being built in December with delivery around February/March next year, so demonstrated should be around thenNot before April. The first LHD EU spec cars will be built in January. Not sure if they will produce RHD right away as well, although it would be weird if they didn't considering the size of the UK market.
I would argue that the Mustang would be far more reliable than the BMWOn looks and sound YES, but not on build quality, reliability, point to point speed, dealer network............
Although I am not a fan of the M2!! M4 Comp for me!!
I know five people with various McLarens all paid well over ÂŁ100k for them and not one has been trouble free. All suffered panel issues and paint issues and mechanical issues.I've had a new Jeep, a new Chrysler, a new BMW, a secondhand Mercedes and an ancient Oldsmobile all made in the USA and all with terrible quality and reliability.
Expecting the worst and hoping for the best with my new Detroit iron.
And TT RS and the Cayman. All around 50k, TT RS stupidly quick but not so great fun/handling but gorgeous car and sounds incredible. At this price, the Mustang's closest competition will be the BMW M2. This ^^33k, what you could have had an iconic V8 for in 2015
50k, what you could potentially option the latest version for in 2017.
They don't compare and i'm not trying to. Just saying imo the first is a bargain and the second is venturing into territory it may struggle in.
I've said too much already so i'm going to shut up. It'll be a great car. It'll be a Mustang![]()
Completely agree. I would say Cayman if hadn't ruined it with a 4 pot and TT RS, yeah, not for me but agree with your commentsAnd TT RS and the Cayman. All around 50k, TT RS stupidly quick but not so great fun/handling but gorgeous car and sounds incredible.
Cayman the best handling car on the road and precise, but sounds absolute junk.
M2 great all rounder but the slowest.
But for sure the above three cars are serious contenders, Drive Tribe did a 1hr long review of the three, fantastic watch.
TT RS is surprisingly good, only comes apart on limit handling, but as a road car its truly a mini R8 offering close to V10 levels of performance, sounds epic and looks the part, its just a bit hair dresser and understeer inducing but as a road warrior hard to beat.
I think I've got lucky, every BMW owned, not a single issue, not even with the dreaded SMG, both my CSL and now my current M3 have been flawless and both were driven very hard on track.I would argue that the Mustang would be far more reliable than the BMW![]()

This ^^
Very valid point here, and recalling another earlier point about the physiological impression of the price, it's almost ÂŁ35k vs ÂŁ45k - if we are talking ballpark figures. That's how I see it in my head anyway; MY15-17 base GT = ÂŁ35k (yes, I know I paid more that that for mine), MY18 - ÂŁ45k.
As Steve says, the Mustang has arguably now moved in to a different category with a whole new world of competition, at ÂŁ35k, nothing could compete really. I think sales will struggle because of this fact & I can't see as many MY18's selling as the 15s - 17s.
Assuming I had no car, ÂŁ50k in my pocket right now, it would be the Mustang all day long. But potential buyers out there now are generally likely to be fast car enthusiasts rather than Mustang fans I feel. It's been said before, but the vast majority of UK Mustang fans will have already got theirs. Sure some will upgrade, and some have patiently waited, soI guess the real question now is whether or not Ford can tempt the German car enthusiasts away...
Then again, some people will just never want a Ford. Quoting my Dad here "nahh, I don't want a Ford". I was trying to persuade him to look at a Focus, he ended up with a diesel A5, which is a nice car so I forgave his blasphemous statement.

I dislike the amber piece on the US models, not sure why Ford has to do that if they already have the amber leds on the bumpers. Camaros, Chargers Challengers don't have any amber in their headlights unless it's for the turning signals.euro ones probably identical uk ones definitely different![]()
I'm not surprised. I saw a full transporter of MY17s heading into Manchester yesterday, so there is clearly still some stock to shift.:headbonk:Still nothing on the ford UK website:frusty:
