I bought a set of 1/4 inch spacers. The site I bought them from listed needing to change the studs only with their 1/2 inch spacers and above. I'm now reading on the forum 5mm is the max for factory studs. My spacer 6.35 mm (1/4 inch). I also read six turns of the lug nut is needed to be safe. Anyone with experience who can clear this up is appreciated.

You should be fine. There are people that use up to 8mm which is right on the edge. At 1/4" you should be good. The biggest question you can answer, are you getting enough turns of the lug nut?

jbailer I'm fixing to jack my car up to see. I'm reading 6 turns minimum. Is that correct?

It really should be 1-1.5 times the thread diameter, but some open lug nuts are short. You want to have 14mm at minimum. I would say the best thing to do is buy one open lug nut and see how much thread you are engaging. Then compare the lug nuts you are using to the open nut.

The pictured nut is the open nut we offer with our 14MM studs. It is roughly 24mm long and has roughly 19mm of usable thread. This gives you a decent safety factor. The Stock OEM lug nuts have only about 17.5mm of thread.

I'm glad Tommy answered. I'm only going by what I've heard from other sources and don't want to be anyone's safety answer.

I have a few members using 8mm spacers on stock studs they work fine, a good way to do that without switching studs, use a ET lug nut it helps to go inward and catch more threads.

I appreciate everyone's input. Hand tight with a socket I got 6 to 6-1/4 turns. I feel comfortable with them.

for what its worth, I am in the process of removing 1/4" spacers now. I didn't have any issues for the few months they were on my car.

Just curious why you removed them?

Left to Right which one do you think has the most thread engagement?

.790"(20mm), .753"(19mm), .690"(17.5mm)
What would be the thickest spacer you could get using the far left lug? I am wanting to do something like 15mm without changing studs. I am lowered on BMR perf springs with 25mm's on all around right now with Stainless Premium wheels and I am rubbing both front and back, so I need to go smaller. I am not sure 23mm will be small enough to eliminate the rub so I'd like to do 15mm with shorter lugs like in the pic if it will work, but that might be pushing it.

We do not recommend anything over 5mm on the stock studs, a 1/2" longer than stock stud it puts you at about 1.5 turns less than full engagement with the oem lug nuts which are only threaded in the bottom half.

If it is purely for appearance (no track use) you can get away with 1/2" longer than stock studs and a 15mm spacer. I would rather see a long stud cut to length with whichever spacer/wheel is going to be used.

Even using the short lugs as shown in your picture several posts back. Looks like you could get an extra several mm of lug travel and turns with those lugs. Could you squeeze 10mm spacers on with those lugs?
