So I've had the urge to trade in for a wrx lately. The 2018 looks great and I love that I could have 4 doors and the awd would come in handy here in the north west come winter time. I love my mustang but it's just a thought that I have had. What do you guys think? Any advice?

If you want a WRX. Buy one. It's your money.

They're both great cars. If the math is right, do it.

Good car the WRX - but Mustang is iconic - its an experience every time I drive it. In time the WRXs will be gone but there will still be Mustangs vintage and new.

You need what meets your personal needs/wants/desires. No one but you can answer that question. If four doors is a great thing and better winter driving characteristics favor the WRX then let that be your guide.

Had an STI and loved it. Fast and got me to the slopes in the winter.

I test drove a Impreza for a winter daily driver a few days ago. I can't afford a WRX they are great cars. I definitely want AWD car for snow.

Snow and AWD are very valid reasons to go for the WRX over a Mustang and I'm sure it's a fantastic car but I have no love for that car. I respect its capabilities but I just can't get excited over an ugly 4 door sedan, no matter how fast it is or its rally pedigree. If it were me, I'd honestly feel more excited over a Wrangler than a WRX.

I just drove the 2018 WRX last week for a few hours and if you're used to the V8 and drive modes, you'll miss them in the WRX since it has neither. Throttle response is lazy, then you gotta wait for the turbo to spool, the whole driving experience just seems a bit disconnected. Needs a tune I guess to sharpen things up. If you haven't test driven one yet I highly recommend it before getting too serious. They sell pretty well so obviously a lot of people like them, but in my opinion it's a downgrade in just about every way for nearly the same money. If you need AWD and 4 doors, Focus RS or Golf R would be better and are hardly more expensive. Just my 2 cents, good luck in your decision.
