Don't sweat it. Do you have the APIM harness repair kit or some pins from Hextall?
i dont have a single thing yet as im not 100% on doing this or just going aftermarket....

There's tons of butthurt in all the Android-based system threads.

I think until a US based manufacturer gets behind one of those systems and can provide support and drive development, people are going to be in the weeds with those.

Sync 3 is nice. It works. Ford supports it (although we're a bit gray market, we'll be able to get updates in roundabout ways.)

its the whole swapping pins that has me all worried....
That's why I have a video coming. I'm still waiting on my non-heated seat bezel but I get so many questions about pins and schematics that I ordered a cheap Premium bezel so that I can show everyone what to do. Should be here next week.
I found the supplier who is making the female APIM connectors that take pins instead of the header connector that you must solder to, I'm trying to order some samples to verify the quality but I'm still convinced changing a few pins is easier.

There's tons of butthurt in all the Android-based system threads.

I think until a US based manufacturer gets behind one of those systems and can provide support and drive development, people are going to be in the weeds with those.

Sync 3 is nice. It works. Ford supports it (although we're a bit gray market, we'll be able to get updates in roundabout ways.)
Actually if you have the VIN for the car you purchased your APIM from you can get it directly from Ford via the My Ford website.

I think that falls under "roundabout ways."

Not sure if OTA updates will ever work for us. Who knows, maybe?!

Ford gives you two choices, OTA or USB stick. You simply add the add car's VIN to your MyFord list, it will check if it's been updated and if not will ask you how you'd like to update, OTA or via USB. Exactly how I did mine.

Regarding the OTA, from what I've seen the Sync 3 APIM picks up the VIN from other modules in the car.

So if it's keyed to the VIN, I'm guessing OTA won't work? Hard for me to tell, my unit came with 2.2 already on it.

I meant a metra or schosce kit. I can't stand the looks of the tesla unit

Lost 911 Assist Solved

I found a post that states that 911 assist is loaded during a sync update with the car running. Since my mustang had 3.8 installed when I had the APIM programmed during my MFT upgrade from the stock 4" screen, I was missing the 911 assist. Since I already had 3.8 installed, I searched for a way to force a update using 3.8, but found nothing. I then found a post that describes how to downgrade from 3.8 to 3.7. I downloaded 3.7 and following the instructions I downgraded sync to 3.7. After sync 3.7 installed, 911 assist was loaded/appeared. I then upgraded back to 3.8 and all is good. Thanks to "13sport" from the Explorer Forum.

So if I were going to a junkyard what would I need to get? I'm going from a base model. The screen, apim, and bezel?
Yeah, you might find one already pulled on car-part.com. The screen and APIM can be separated or sold as a unit, they're bolted together.

If you can actually pull one out of a yard yourself, you'd do well to cut the APIM connector off of the harness while you're there, as well as the power plug for the hub in the console.

You could re-use some of the APIM wires/pins to modify your factory base harness.

But you can totally go without the ACM. If I was there at a yard pulling it myself, I'd grab it though.

Anyone knows how to check if 2016 sync3 apim/screen works? Picked it up from scrap yard and have 10days to return, cant get it to light up and having a hard time rewiring. pin1 fuse and pin37 ground don't do anything, what else do you need to get it to start just to check condition
