I have been with Geico for about 5 years. They offered me the best price in town for coverage on my 3 vehicles. Accident forgiveness was a big plus for me. Last year I unfortunately wrecked my first S550 when avoiding hitting a dog on my way to work early in the morning. Settlement came in without issues and I got back into my current S550. I've recommended family and friends and they all received better rates than their current insurance provider.

If you aren’t shopping around insurance every 3 years, you are wasting your money. As your age, credit, vehicles, address, kids etc. all change, so does your risk. Different insurance companies place different risks on all of your life factors. While insurance company A may be cheaper when you are 21, when you turn 24…insurance company B might very well have a cheaper rate.
Great info!

Kind of an interesting read on ins. Myths & Hidden Truths 2015 Consumer Reports

State Farm here forever, it's not the cheapest but man do they take care of you no questions asked, got a whole car replaced (1996 Ford Probe GT), a windshield replaced (2016 Mustang) and top dollar for another car (2001 Grand Prix) that was totaled, very happy with the company.

How old are you? I am 27 with a couple tickets so $1000 every 6 months with nose bleed deductibles is about the best I could find on the GT.
Patience, young grasshopper! I'm twice your age +4.

I was in your shoes once!

So the real question is did they raise your rates through the roof after those claims?

If you're eligible, USAA is the best there is, in my opinion. Usually the cheapest too.

My insurance agent does the shopping for me every year.
He always finds me the best deal around. He handles all of my family's home/auto/life... etc
Find you a good agent, and be stress free

Yeah but how much do you pay the agent?

I've learned zip codes play a huge role in whether premiums are cheap or not too, for when we're all pulling out our dicks to compare sizes with the cheapest rates hahaha. I'm with Allstate and I started out paying $180-ish every month when I first took home my '16 GT. Since then I've moved about 9 or 10 miles away from my old home. I kept everything exactly the same on my policy, just simply updated my new address. I'm in the same county, but a different zip code. Rate dropped down to $115/mo. I asked the lady since I was doing this over the phone what got changed, I was sure she must've accidentally unchecked some kind of option for my coverage while clicking around my account and nope, it was all the address change. They keep their little statistics of claims filed in each zip code and apparently there is just a lot less claims filed in this zip code here.

So, I think that warrants some kind of consideration when shopping around too. Plays a bigger role than I ever thought, I always figured the biggest factor would be my age and driving record. I don't think it's worth moving entirely just to save on insurance, but if you find yourself looking around for places to move in to it's just one more factor I guess to call around and check up on before you pull the trigger.

I had a feeling this thread would turn out this way. Everyone posting their insurance companies and hardly any of them matching.

Good post though, I've been complacent on shopping insurance for a while, heading over to esurance to see what I can find. Mustang's 591.10 for 6 months with state min and 250 ded with American family with state mins and uninsured/underinsured and roadside.

I just moved from USAA to Geico when I got my S550 last December. Rates went from 190 a month down to 140. Same coverage and everything.

EDIT: I'm 23 with no accidents or tickets.

Nothing.

Independent agents get commissions from the insurance policies or something, just like an insurance company agent would.

I have the same deal, an agent, recommended by my financial advisor, who cross shops rates for me every couple of years. When she calls I save money. Its great, and she always asks before we switch, we've used Hartford, Safeco, Liberty Mutual, and such. Never had any issues with the companies we've used, either.

Rates change constantly, and insurance companies like to manage their risk by attracting different kinds of customers from time to time, which means rate deals. They raise/change rates on us at each renewal, so its not like anything is locked in our favor on their end.

If you're not doing this or cross shopping your own policies every few years, you're waisting money. Dont stick with a particular company just because you've had them for a while, cause they definitely wouldn't do the same for you.
