Exhaust Advice: Res Delete or Axle Back?

This is my daily driver so I absolutely do not want anything loud or obnoxious. And any droning at all is unacceptable. Yet, I'm not quite happy with the volume and tone of the stock exhaust. It's close, but not quite there, want a little more.

That said, I want it to be cost effective as exhausts have gotten insanely expensive these days for what you get in return. So I have narrowed my choices to a res delete (haven't decided X or H pipe) or the Legato axle back. A big plus for the axle back is the upgraded tips, but obviously a res delete is less money.

I've read around here like crazy, and reading in circles about the endless options has just about made me crazy.

Any thoughts and feedback on this as well as H or X pipe (if you recommend the res delete option) would be much appreciated.

Note: I'm bone stock and really do not plan to do anything else in the foreseeable future other than maybe a tune/cai.

The cheapest one that I like is the Roush, for 400 or so. With resonator actually it sounds pretty nice and not ultra loud at all. There is also the Pypes pro touring, about the same price, but I'd do it with an X pipe.

So, it's res delete. I like the Summit Racing ones, they actually fit outside of your stock pipes (as opposed to clamped on coupling), so you'll lessen the probability of leaks.

Actually, if you're going cheap, I prefer muffler deletes. IMO, they give a way better sound than res delete...if you're willing to go against the law.

Good advice thanks. I'm slowly leaning toward a res delete and then just be done with it.

I would not do a resonator delete with stock mufflers. The stock mufflers make a terribly tinny rasp at higher RPM without the resonator. I did this first and would not do it this way again if I could go back. It sounded decent at part throttle and idle, but really hated how it sounded when you really got on it.

Good quality axleback first. Trust me on this. For relatively tame options, you have:

Corsa Touring axleback
FRPP Touring axleback
Pypes Pro-Street Touring
SLP LM II
New AWE Touring axleback

A little louder:
Corsa Sport
Borla S-type
Roush AB
FRPP Sport

Having done the resonator delete, keeping the resonator and going axle back has better sound with less rasp or obnoxious notes just after cold start.

I have the same exact criteria as you.

I ended up doing the res delete on my car, went with an H pipe. No drone, and its a couple db louder. It is a bit raspier tho.

However the car is still too quiet for me, it's quieter/equal to my buddies '14. I really wish I bit the bullet and went with a cat back. I am currently looking at the Varex programmable set up.

I am going to install the Steeda CAI and see if the overall sound of the car improves to my liking first, then its new mufflers in one way shape or form.

In my searching I see you use to have a Pypes Pro Touring? Why'd you change?

Axleback before res delete any day! Stock mufflers are way too tame and sound tinny. Removing the resonator will only accentuate that while barely being louder.

I did a muffler delete with stock suitcase and while it sounded good for what it is, it was significantly louder in cabin and resonated (I wouldn't call it drone) a bit in 6th between 60-70mph.

I got a deal I couldn't refuse on a Corsa sport axleback (Extreme without the double x-pipe) and in cabin noise is like stock until you get on it, with absolutely no resonance or drone wot or cruising in any gear... perfect. Note that I'll be installing an h-pipe soon transforming mine in to an extreme, as I got used to the sound quickly and now want MORE, lol.

You have no idea of what you're missing until you change the mufflers... It completely changes the character of the car. I guarantee you won't be disappointed with a quality axleback!
