Hey everyone, I just installed a turbosmart BOV and it just doesn't seem to sound right. I bought it from another member, so "factory" settings are already lost. He said it had already been tuned correctly, but upon install, something definitely seems off. I've tried adjusting it, but it doesn't seem to go right on any setting. It seems to be leaking boost on half throttle acceleration and fluttering when I let off. Does it need to go softer or heavier, or am I missing something here

Thanks

Also, I have an air raid intake

What vacuum source are you using?

The one that comes out of the manifold (I think) on top and inch behind the throttle body

I'm using the turbosmart adapter thing that clips in there

Ok, that is the correct one. Some have gotten used bov valves with the older vacuum block.

Sounds like it is acting like the stock crap valve.

Maybe contact TS for the "factory" spring settings?

Yeah, I'll have to give it a shot. I'm wondering if i need to switch out a spring or if maybe the valve is faulty or something. But then again, perhaps I'm just not adjusting it properly

If you are leaking boost - you have a leak!
IF the BOV is the source, either you reference or reference line has an issue or you are missing one of the sealing o-rings. No amount of adjusting will fix a leak.

I cannot count how many times we have had "issues" with the bov that ended up being the damn charge pipes - :frusty:

I guess I'm not really sure if "leak" is the right word. I hear air whistling that sounds almost like a long steady pshhh on acceleration--not the same whoosh I hear from my intake

When I give it a little throttle and let off before 3500ish rpms, it makes a sort of sputtering noise, that seems to be coming from the drivers side. When I rev in neutral to about 5k rpm, I get a pshhh from the passenger side when I let off

Well boost holds the valve shut under positive manifold pressure (up to 80psi). So if it is indeed related to your BOV installation, check the things I mentioned. Is the nipple in the top of the valve tight? If it was working fine on your buddies car, what changed?

In addition, if your boost reference is not correct or damaged, you will also have an issue getting the valve to react. It operates on pressure differential.

The nipple isn't really tight. It rotates pretty much freely. Also, where the it's raining and nighttime over here now so I'll recheck all of the connections in the morning. The only really difficult think is that I can't take my engine cover off all the way. I have a strut tower brace, but I recently had my engine swapped for a new one at ford. When they swapped it, the messed up the nuts and I can't get them off now, so since the brace goes over the cover, I can't get the cover off. It was a b**** to do it with the cover on still

Sounds like they over tightened the cover bolt and stripped the mount. Try grabbing the offending nut with pliers and pull it straight up and out with the cover.

4 bolts and the brace is off.
Ford lost the nuts supplied with The Steeda brace when the replaced my engine. They used nuts that had the wrong threading, and now the studs are stripped with the nuts stuck on the bolts. When I apply lots of torsion to try to get them off, the whole stud rotates. Haven't been able to get the brace off yet

That's good....the studs are just encased in grommets to the valve cover. I bet if you pulled it straight up, it would come off.

I just saw it was the brace that is stuck. That sucks. Time to buy a nut cracker.

just can't catch a break with this car! Apparently while installing the BOV I also put some pressure on a hose/line and maybe cracked it
