At 83xx miles, my shifter started to squeak, specifically with first and second gear transitions. It must be rubbing on the reverse lockout. How hard is it to get to this to grease it up? I don't want my car tied up at the dealer.

There is no fix for this. I tried it all. They haveto replace the entire shifter assembly which can eventually do the same.

I will install a MGW shifter.

Same thing happened to you? Did you bring it to the dealer? Unbelievable.

Happened to me since I picked it up with 5 miles

I went with MGW
Mine started at 200 miles. At 2nd gear around 4000 rpm, it gets pretty ridiculous. If i m on the phone, its heard by the other person.

I changed the knob. Didnt fix it. I used all kinds of other things ranging from extra teflon tape to rubber bushings around the ring collar. Nothing fixed it. Dealer told me its a common problem and requires them to change the entire shifter assembly. That requires them to remove the transmission as well as opening internal body panels. No thanks.

I will be installing the MGW shifter.

You don't have to remove the transmission to change out the stock shifter for stock (or for the MGW for that matter). You merely have to tip the rear of the transmission down a few inches buy unbolting the transmission support crossmember. And access for the stock or MGW shifter both require that some console area panels have to be removed/reinstalled (which is rather simple).

I know all that, I watched the mgw video 20 times. But the dealer goes with their instructions and thats what they told me

The dealer service mechanics use the factory service manuals for reference but most know and use shortcuts whenever possible. I'll take a look at the manual.
