The 10 speed transmission will improve real world city MPG a lot too as the car will have more gears to choose from to keep in optimal (low rpm) MPG territory.

I'm a little confused by Ford building a whole new 5.0 (dual injection) engine. I guess they'll use a version of it in the F-150 and Mustang GT for the next 3 years, which when F150's are counted its like 100,000's of motors.

I thought for sure the next gen s650 Mustang GT was going to use a high performance version of the Ecoboost 3.5L engine, like in the Raptor with 450hp/510lbs torque.

Modify the tune a little for higher hp/lower torque, and you're still at 470hp/470lbs with a wide power band that come on early in the RPM range. That type of torque would throw you back in the seat with whiplash in a GT!

Ford GT just won the Daytona 24 hrs with its high output ecoboost.

Mustang is the perfect platform for the 3.5TT.

The manual transmission for both engine options has been upgraded for optimal torque. For the V8, the manual transmission has been totally redesigned to include a twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel to increase torque capability and deliver more efficient clutch modulation.

I'll have to find the piece about the gearing.

It would make sense. If the MY18 has a significant torque bump, it wouldn't need the extra gear to stay in the powerband...meaning an extra overdrive would be a logical option.

I remember it coming up in the main 18 thread by one of the insiders I believe. 4th was supposed be direct drive.

Nope. Congress had nothing to do with it. The original CAFE standards were enacted by Congress in the 70s, but they expired decades ago. Modern CAFE standards were dictated by the Obama administration under the umbrella of the the NHTSS and the EPA. This isn't anything unusual. Almost all regulations are not authorized by Congress, hence Donald Trump's ability to repeal them unilaterally.

Yes, Ford are so Lazy they completely rebuilt the 5.0 with "the Crankshaft the only carryover part" - giving significantly more low end Torque, top-end Power & REVS...

All the indications would point to a radical improvement - as a starting point, with plenty of future - over the horizon development potential.

In that context, 478hp (10%) would be a minimum and 485hp would not be unreasonable

The 2015's were revealed in December of 2013.

They were officially introduced in April of 2014 and order banks opened in late April/Early May.

IIRC it wasn't until August or September of 2014 that power figures were released and sometime in October/November when they gave full weight specs.

There were a ton of folks who were upset at the notion of ordering a car in April/May without knowing most of the key specifications and info.
