I had quite a long chat with Andy Barratt at Silverstone back in May, or whenever it was. Apparently he'd already seen the S650 and said it was an absolute stunner - although obviously no details were divulged. So get those piggy banks filled! :D
When I first read this, I thought "yeah right, sure he's seen it!".......but then with S650 being moved up to 2020 and the '21MY it's quite possible the design is pretty much done. Although I suspect he's only seen either sketches or early clay (scale) models. I suspect it'll be at least a year until they start to produce very early prototypes and the first ones will be hacked up S550s :)

This is my kind of hybrid......7/10ths S197, 3/10ths S550 :ford:

And just 'cos I haven't posted it in a while.....make it look just like this, Ford! :D

I would hope its looks wouldn't appeal to me but suspect it'll look killer and will have all the performance enhancements over the 550 that 5 years of additional development allows.
Technology wise it'll no doubt have the ability to psychically transmit "buy me" messages to our weak men brains.

Depends if they get the designer from the current Mustang or the one who designed the 18 refresh!

Looks like this one has already been crash tested.

Some of the original features and heritage of the Mustang revolve around affordability, specability and modability. The higher the tech gets, the less it carries on these unique and desirable traits. Whatever the criticism of the S550, everybody agreed it was fantastic value and held true to the Mustang DNA. Ford are getting close to it not really being a Mustang. Fast Ford's review states, "The S550 Mustang is refreshingly old fashioned, and that is a huge part of it's appeal". I agree.

The second pic posted by TT looks stunning; but with a 10 speed box, trick suspension that can't be modded, even a V6 Eco giving 650bhp? Maybe they should call it a Thunderbird, and let the Mustang concept rest.

I think I may be an early adopter this time. But I think I may have another car in between. Still need to scratch the GTR itch and after being taken out in a 700bhp monster it has aggravated the itch A LOT!

But looking forward to the S650 rumour mill starting

If I am not in a position to buy the 911 I want or maybe even the new Toyota Supra, and the S650 is a considerable upgrade over S550.2 then I will get one.

There is all kind of rumours developing now on the S550.2 Coyote engine as a Ford Engineer at a show said the entire engine is fully re-worked, only crank remains, bigger bore size, upto 93mm from 92.2mm, stronger internals for higher redline, higher compression, Port/Direct injection is a really big jump on the engine. A lot are now thinking S550.1 should have had it but Ford obviously stretched the current engine as they could.

S650 is supposed to have the 5.0 Coyote too, though my thoughts are how much more can they really extract, by the time S650 arrives the engine will have to be 500HP stock with a 7600rpm redline to remain competitive one would think. Or maybe they will in the end pick another engine. I'd not completely object to Ford giving us a V8 Ecoboost for the S650, something around 4.4-4.8l with twin turbo would be epic and imagine the tuning potential of that for so little money. That is what I'd like to see on S650 anyway, would make 700HP very easy from just remapping and exhaust tweaks. :)
I'd also not be upset if we got a V8 Hybrid with 600+, as long as it did not way over 2 tonne which knowing Ford it would weigh 3 tonne, but it has to be V8 for me, otherwise I am no longer buying, either keep the old one or move to another marque.

S550.1 is a great car, though it has little niggles which Ford should be ashamed off, the clunk/thuds in transmission due to too much backlash and two-piece driveshaft is shoddy, the floaty rear-end due to poorly damped dampers and lack of bracing in the rear again shoddy and just the poor clutch feel though that is quite an easy fix. In short they could of done a better job, almost feels like us, the customer have being a big part of Ford's R&D on S550.1 platform.

S550.2 just seems to fix a lot of the issues complained about out the box so in theory S650 should be amazing, unless they start from scratch again and the customers end up being the R&D. :D

Absolutely......and even Tom Barnes (Mustang Engineering Manager) even reiterated with the launch of the '18MY that Mustang is "fast, affordable and fun". It's always been that way and I hope that ethos carries in to S650.

S550 has more technology in it than any car before. Heck, the pace of tech development in the 10 years since my S197 hit the road is scary. But that's the way of the industry and Mustang will have to keep pace if it's to be taken seriously (I know we can argue the pros and cons of the NCAP results, but if Ford were ahead of the game, it would have been a 5* car and, like it or not, 2* just isn't good enough).

Things like MagneRide will likely remain an option, or at least only be standard on the top-level models.

As long as Mustang remains good value compared to its rivals (and it's rivals are VERY different to what they were during the S197's reign) it'll still keep that "fast, affordable fun" aspect. And the Mustang aftermarket, as we all know, is worth Billions.......and S650 isn't going to change that.

For me, I'd like to see S650:

Lose a little weight (an all aluminium construction please)
Add a mid-range 2.7 Ecoboost 6 (I see this being used in the hybrid version)
Keep the 2.3 Ecoboost 4.
Up the quality (both in terms of interior trim.....and I think '18 will go a long way toward this.....and in terms of the panel alignment, etc)

Most important, to me, are gorgeous looks, a classic long hood short deck 2+2 body, and a V8.

By wanting a car to to be light, made with more expensive materials, stacked with bloatware, autobox, adaptive suspension etc, are we not just asking for another overpriced sports car? The fact the Mustang is relatively heavy is maybe its saving grace with the two star NCAP rating, as if the worst should happen and you hit a lighter car you at least stand half a chance!

Manders, see if you can use your negotiating powers to get a discount for 20+ owners to buy from a single franchise with huge discount, I'm sure something like that could be done

Potential ÂŁ800k+ at one dealership :first:

My negotiating power usually involves being a pedantic wanker and then getting annoyed and throwing a lawyer at it lmao .

I'll speak to my one in Birmingham, when we have the meet there, think they'd be happy to take deposits on 20 cars (c20k in their pocket), with the potential of 800-900k landing.. Naturally within this deal i'd need to have us all agreed to be on the list of the first run that are made for RHds... for ordering 4 years early ;)!. Discount side of it, I haven't a clue
