Is the Mustang vulnerable?

The Mustang OBD port is so easy to access and would it be possible such as when you leave the car for something simple like a valet for someone to clone a key and then come later and steal the car? Did anyone manage to secure their OBD port yet?

I don't want to tempt fate but it's a wonder that we haven't heard of a single Mustang being stolen (yet).

I got moulding putty and put it over my OBD port (Joking).

Any car is suseptible to hacking, depends how much someone wants it, they all have computer systems, etc within them, so they're all totally 'vulnerable'.

I managed to ahem... 'find' the Keyless entry sensor in my car whilst taking out the dash, it's a pig and a half to get to, but, it's there in the rear cup holder.

AS the article states, a jammer will just jam the signal letting them in, the Mustang will then state "No key found" when trying to turn on. If the jammer could replicate the keys signal, then yes, they could drive off with your car.

It's the reason we have insurance, we can try and prevent theft as much as possible, but, end of the day, someone, should they want it hard enough, will be able to get it, be that a Bugatti or a Banger.

Gorilla tape the OBD up, it won't stop them but it will delay them by upto a minute.

This is what I done on my car:

- Gorilla tape on OBD
- Steering wheel lock (good one)
- Keyfob's in those anti-transmitter pouches, so the keyfob now has less than 1m range
- Leave car in gear and hand brake on
- Make it look way different than stock as much as you can.


It won't stop a determined thief but to a passing by opportunist they will move onto the next easier one to steal and to a chav looking for a joy ride they won't try due to the visible steering lock.

All you can do is attempt to delay them and well put them off. But if they truly want it, they shall take it.

I have my obd port disabled , not going into too many years details on here,

I've never heard any mention on here or anywhere of a Mustang being stolen in the UK, the Focus RS forums though is awash with stories of stolen RS' joyriding round Birmingham, etc. I'd have thought it'd be the same security system Ford used in both so if one is suspetible, so is the other.

Got mine here, was a lot cheaper at 9.99 for 3 but works very well and still going strong

A better option, at least in the States, is to drive a car that has a manual transmission. There are tons of reports of would-be thieves being thwarted because they can't row their own gears.

Not going to work in the UK but the premise of making your car unattractive to tea-leafs is sound. We should maybe fit 2.3's or paint our cars white ;) :bolt:

I think I'm going to do this, steering wheel lock and spend money on mods (as per Gibbo's wise advice.) Also a motion triggered floodlight on the drive.

Can't see why the Mustang would be a particular popular choice with car thieves.

It's not a massively valuable car, and it's pretty niche. Surely it would make more sense to nick a nicely specced up Audi or BMW, which could be sold on much more easily. There would be a lot of risk for a thief selling on a rare car like a Mustang, much more likely to be spotted and caught.

Not even sure they'd be hugely popular with joy riders, considering they only really have room for two adults.

Joy riders are 13 year olds, will be fine in the back,,, or the boot, dead, if I catch them doing it
