I agree, the key feels cheap. I actually take care not to put it in my pocket with keys/coins/phone to avoid scratching :crazy:
Got a Mustang on the back though so all is good!

Bear in mind that the key is not really a key in the traditional sense due to the keyless entry.

It's just a mini transmitter. As such, its robustness is more akin to a mobile phone than a physical tool.

You could argue that it should be made of rubberised material of course, but I would imagine the designers engineer consider it really to be an 'accessory' thst lives in the pocket/wallet/purse rather than something you physically open the car with.

Hence the 'fragility' of said item.

Either way, hope you get it sorted! Dealer goodwill can play a big part. Ultimately you just need the carcass of the keyfob and migrate the elecronics into it (assuming they still work?)

I'd look for another fob off eBay, then swap the innards, and the back piece over.:)
