Key fob, blipper, whatever you like to call it.

Another question if I may gents.

Perceived wisdom is to buy any spares whilst you still have the two originals. You can program them yourself up to four keys in total(2+2 original).

Whilst I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me with a price, has anyone managed to purchase one from an auto locksmith? If so, where from and how much?

I believe we only get the 3 button blipper in the UK, there being no difference between the auto and manual gearbox cars.

I see the metal bits are on ebay for around 5 quid a blank.

Thanks in adavance.

Don't recall anyone on the forum mentioning buying replacement/extra fobs. Ours do only have three buttons - open/close/trunk - no remote start or panic for us.

Question... why would you want (potentially) 4 keys?

Do you have a habit of losing them?... (please don't say you want them for the wife... that's just not done) :D !!!

Restricted speed with warnings, audio volume, no track apps as I remember it. However suspect Ford themselves have a back door. And I don't mean where they keep the Ecoboosts ;):bolt:

Can't keep the ecobeast locked up!!!

I'm sure ford have a back door, every system is designed with a back door, that's how 'hacking' comes along. Anyway, i'm sure it's plausible/possible for a key to have such features, maybe not the warnings/volume etc, but, deffo the 'restricted speed' bit.

Oh you do live the high life don't you :D !

Actually... buggered if I'd let a chauffeur drive me in the car... where's the fun in that!

Good point though regarding something to give to the plebby masses when you have to hand over the car for any unfortunate reason!

Cheers lads, saves me having to answer.

From what our 'muricon mates say it would cost 300 bucks plus to replace a key if you only have 1 original key but you can get one for about 60 bucks from ebay and program it yourself if you have 2 originals.

For what it's worth, I ain't lost a car key in over 40 years.

I got a Renault keycard programmed by an auto locksmith for ÂŁ100 the other day (Renault were looking ÂŁ160 for a new card.)
The card itself was ÂŁ20 off ebay and the programming was ÂŁ80 (this included him driving 50 miles to me.)

Doesn't it just hide the Sync options and such?
MyKey allows you to program keys with restricted driving modes to promote good driving habits. All but one of the keys programmed to the vehicle can be activated with these restricted modes. Any keys that have not been programmed are referred to as administrator keys or admin keys. These can be used to:
• Create a MyKey.
• Program configurable MyKey settings.
• Clear all MyKey features.

When you have programmed a MyKey, you can access the following information using the information display:
• How many admin keys and MyKeys are programmed to your vehicle.
• The total distance your vehicle has traveled using a MyKey.

Note: All MyKeys are programmed to the same settings. You cannot program them individually.

Note: For vehicles with intelligent access with push-button start, when both a MyKey and an admin intelligent access key fob are present, the admin fob will be recognized by the vehicle while switching the ignition on to start the vehicle.

Non-configurable Settings
The following settings cannot be changed by an admin key user:
• Belt-Minder or safety belt reminder.
You cannot disable this feature. The audio system will mute when the front
seat occupants’ safety belts are not fastened.
• Early low fuel. The low-fuel warning activates earlier, giving the MyKey user
more time to refuel.
• Driver assist features, if equipped on your vehicle, are forced on: parking aid, blind spot information system (BLIS) with cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and forward collision warning system.
• Track Mode, if your vehicle is equipped with this feature, is restricted.
• Satellite radio adult content restrictions (available only in some
markets).

Configurable Settings
With an admin key, you can configure certain MyKey settings when you first
create a MyKey and before you recycle the key or restart the vehicle. You can also change the settings afterward with an admin key.
• A vehicle speed limit can be set.
Warnings will be shown in the display followed by an audible tone when your
vehicle reaches the set speed. You cannot override the set speed by fully
depressing the accelerator pedal or by setting cruise control.
WARNING
Do not set MyKey maximum speed limit to a limit that will prevent the
driver from maintaining a safe speed considering posted speed limits and
prevailing road conditions. The driver is always responsible to drive in accordance with local laws and prevailing conditions. Failure to do so could result in accident or injury.

MyKey™
• Various vehicle speed minders can be set. Once you select a speed, it will be shown in the display, followed by an audible tone when the preselected
vehicle speed is exceeded.
• Audio system maximum volume of 45%. A message will be shown in the
display when you attempt to exceed the limited volume. Also, the
speed-sensitive or compensated automatic volume control will be
disabled.
• Always on setting. When this is selected, you will not be able to turn
off traction control, Emergency Assistance and Do Not Disturb (if your
vehicle is equipped with these features), and Sport Mode will not be
available to MyKey drivers.
