It is, except under certain conditions. As of Jul 2016, you can apply for a rear plate which states, "Rear Plate Only" on the bottom and costs, I believe an extra $10.00 (could be more, i.e. $25.). The restriction pertains to annual mileage, and it is less then 6000 miles a year. You must show your odometer readings each time you apply. The people I know will garage the cars for the winter, so this may work out for Mustang owners who don't drive in the winter as I do. I have the Craigs' custom bracket and at times I carry my plate in the car. No factory bracket.Isn't SD a front plate state?
