Winter Tune

Guys I was wondering for all that drive their Mustangs during winter do you return the tune back to stock? There's just more torque with the PRX tune that I'm worried about icy roads leading to spin outs?

or possibly going with a more economical MPG tune for the winter rather than power?

I ran my '11 GT that put down 420 or so RWHP in Wisconsin winters for years. I got stuck maybe once in 4 seasons.

Since my first car, an 85 HP Saturn, would spin tire on ice, I think a tune is not the issue.

well here's the thing guys, I know where you're going with it all. but how many stories have we heard where people spin off the road because they're horsing around hitting the gas on turns?

it's not out of the question to technically think about how easy it is to spin out when your car is putting out more HP than a Saturn so why not do something that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars like buying snow tires and take a little bite out of the acceleration curve?

Going to go out on a limb here and say that you should look into some winter tires for that pony. A simple tap on the pedal won't spin you out, but bad tires can.

there's no question it can be easy to spin out a car like a mustang. but having good tires if far more important than detuning your car. if i didn't just buy a second car for winter, i would rock my stang all winter long here in western PA with a good set of tires. 750 hp doesn't activate unless my foot tells it to.

Winter tires aren't just good for keeping traction from power but also braking which is the most important thing when it comes to a car. If you're driving in any bad weather, get good tires. I'm seeing barely used sets pop up for sale weekly.

Because the fact that you don't need power at all to spin out on tires that are not suited for winter driving?
If applying power to the back is the only reason cars spin out then FWD cars would never spin out ever.

I drove my tuned ecoboost all through last winter with no issues with snow tires. This year, after my first storm in my stock GT, with what I researched as really good A/S tires (DWS06), I ordered new wheels and snow tires. There really is no comparison. Get winter tires. Mine are on the way.

As someone from the Northeast who didn't get a 4wd vehicle until into my late 20's Snow tires are the single BEST investment (Aside from an engaged brain) when it comes to winter driving. I used to get mine from Costco/Sam's Club, get me some big old knobbies (Most of mine were 2wd trucks/suv's) and in some cases i was even better off than some people i knew with 4wd.

Check out the perelli winter sotozero 3's, just got them installed as my winter set in 255/40r/19 all around. They feel great so far, already can tell the difference over the stockers'!
