How well would a GT auto handle a road course? Would the trans get way too hot from all the shifting?

Depends on the course, but putting it in sport mode and controlling the shifts with the paddles would limit that. The 6R80 is a pretty tough B, though would definitely benefit from a trans cooler for track work (as would the MT-82), just as the F-150 gets one in most configurations for towing.

I wouldn't worry much unless you're really driving hard. You can always do a couple laps on, then a cooling lap, and then a couple more per session.

The F150 trans overheats pretty dam quick going WOT for any extended period of time. Even when it gets red hot it still keeps on trucking along though. You will be fine doing a track day, just keep an eye on it.

I ran mine on 7 - 20 minutes sessions without a problem. Never overheated at all. Depends on the track but I was in 2nd most of the time with only a couple shifts to 3rd on the straights. In my first session I left the shifter in S and let the trans shift while I concentrated on my lines and braking. Your brakes will heat up much faster than your trans will. After that I used the paddles but still spent most of my day in 2nd gear.

I just bought subfame bushings and BMR cradle lockout kit. A G-brace in front will help as well. Work on the suspension and you'll have a fine time on the track, 6R80 is a great auto.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know the Auto had a large trans cooler from the factory.

I just bought BMR 082/089 springs, BMR cradle lockout, and will be buying Koni Yellow or Steeda Adjustables today. Next up is strut tower brace and sway bars after Christmas. Hopefully some better tires as well before spring, not a fan of the 265 all summer tires on the factory 20in wheels.

All great choices. Don't forget to look into braking. I ran the stock 4 piston brakes (standard on the GT non-PP) with stock pads. They lasted most of the day but my last session they were done. Before my next time out i'm going to add brake cooling ducts and switch to either EBC yellowstuff or G-Loc pads. You'll notice you braking start to degrade as you get into later sessions. I also flushed my brake fluid and replaced it with Motul RBF 600.

Good point above. I didn't have brake pad issues (Brembo) but I did notice my brake pedal felt softer the days after the event. Replaced the brake fluid (I used stock last event) and it came back.

I've considered getting a set of the Ford Brembos eventually, but at $1299 it's a lot of money. How hard is it to add cooling ducts?

Cooling ducts is like a couple hour job - someone even sells a kit, I forget who. Maybe Full Tilt Boogie? I forget.

$1300 for Brembos isn't bad - they feel similar in braking but can take a LOT more heat.

That said, if I could do it over again, I'd prefer to have Wilwood brakes front and back.

Looks like JLT makes the kit and sells them for $229, but you'd lose the fog lights with the install. I like the price on the Wilwoods, but have heard mixed opinions on them.
