I changed the oil on my GT a few weeks ago and didn't make any mess. Use some heavy aluminum foil and make a shield below the filter to keep the oil that pukes out of the filter and mount off the parts below the filter. Just loosen the filter enough to start the oil draining, but don't remove it until it stops draining will also help.

There's a wiring harness that runs directly below my oil filter. Worst design ever since it is impossible to change the filter without oil getting all over the harness. I might have to try the tin foil method to route the oil around it.

i tried a gigantic ziploc...maybe i should loosen a little like you said, let it drain...with the bag stuffed over the top. instead, i kept turning, oil ran down my arms, it was glorious lol

I just use a small piece of cardboard. I curved it and pushed it up against the bottom of the housing the filter screws on to. It works like a charm. The oil drips on it and runs down off the end into the pan. No mess at all except for some oil on my fingers.
