I initially ordered a 17 with the electronics package due to the toggle switches, nav and xm. I knew the build date would not be until late fall or early 2017. I had the opportunity to pick up a 17 with no convience or elect. pack off the dealers floor. I was going back and forth big time. Both cars were black, so that was a non issue.

At the end of the day, the most important feature to me was the recaros so I bought the available Shelby. I don't regret my decision one bit.

I don't miss the nav as I have a maps app on my iPhone.
I don't miss the xm as I just stream music through Amazon prime and I don't have that unsightly xm puck on roof.
I don't miss the toggle switches as you can make the same changes within seconds via steering wheel controls.

And I saved $3,000.
Yep, completely happy with my 16 track pack car sans those extras.

It depends on what's important for you.

I bought my car as a driver's toy first and foremost. My decision was whether to get a 2016 Track Pack or wait for a 2017 Base or Electronics package. The Recaros & Track Pack (standard in 2017) were must haves for me. I ended up getting the 2016 Track Pack because I could get a better deal on the car and saved money. Plus, I love Deep Impact Blue and that color has been discontinued for 2017.

All other things being equal, my preference would have been a 2017 Electronics Package. But for me, I really don't care about the stereo or Nav or touch screen controls etc., as I bought the car to simply "drive" as my weekend toy. So I'm perfectly happy without all the Sync 3 bells and whistles. The only things I do miss are the built in garage door opener and the toggle switch for the sport exhaust. However, those two items weren't worth the extra cost of a 2017, especially if ADM was involved.

Having said that, if I were in a situation where I could simply order exactly what I wanted at MSRP, I definitely would have opted for the Electronics Package.
I'm in the same boat that you WERE in. I have not purchased yet.
I really want DIB. I want the Recaros. I want Android Auto and the other nice electronic gizmos.
I will track the car several times a year but it will be a DD 8 months of the year. I road raced for 15 years.

If DIB was available in 17, it would be easy. Now I'm left with choices...
1. Get a DIB 16 Track Pack and do interior upgrades
2. Get a DIB 16 Tech and add Track goodies
3. Get a 17 with electronics in a "second choice" color.
I'm in no rush and plan to purchase within the next 6-12 months.

The Convenience Package ALSO has the toggle switches. At least in the 17. I know, I have them and I do not have the Tech Package.

Not sure how easy Option 1 is to do, if you want it same as the factory. Certainly there are aftermarket solutions that are probably better than what Ford offers. Also, Android Auto is supposed to be coming for the '16 cars later this year.

Option 2 is not easily doable at this point in time, as nobody seems to have a trans cooler kit (yet) for the Tech Pack/Base '16 cars. So if you really want DIB, I think Option 1 is your best bet, especially as you intend to track your car. OTOH, if you're in no rush, you can wait and see if Ford and/or the aftermarket provide other solutions for the '16 cars.

I really love DIB, it was a high priority on my "want" list. I think I would have also been fine with a '17 Lightning Blue, but sometimes LB looks a little too light for my tastes. OTOH, the '17 cars have a different door sill and logo on the strut tower brace, which may or may not be a big deal. For me, I really prefer the "GT350" logo door sill on the 15/16 cars over the "Ford Performance" on the 17 cars, but this is also easily rectifiable as I've seen the door sills on ebay.

TRACK PACK FTW! Because racetrack. Rear seat delete and other weight savings to come.

Noob GT350 shopper here.
I get the basic difference between Convenience and Electronics Package is the seats.
But Ford's 2017 Build and Price site does not mention Track Pack.

Sorry for the dumb question .. but what is Track Pack? Rear seat delete and extra coolers for example??

The track package is from the 2016 GT350s. Ford made the "track package" the standard for 2017. So every GT350 starting in 2017 has the coolers

Ah-so.

Track package is 3 coolers (only?), and is now standard on 2017's. This was to prevent Limp Mode (I hate when that happens).

Am I correct?
In 2016 not counting the Rs the were 3 GT350 options

Base - no trans/diff coolers, no magride, base radio, cloth recaros
Track package- added trans/diff coolers and magride, base radio, cloth recaros
Tech pack- no trans/diff coolers, added magride, leather seats, upgraded radio

2017

Base - trans/diff coolers and magride, base radio, cloth recaros
Convience/electronic - trans/diff coolers and magride, upgraded radio, one has leather seats one has recaros

The oil cooler has been standard on all GT350s every year. And yes Ford made the trans/diff coolers standard to prevent limp mode

I didn't really look at 2017 pricing since I already have a 2016. But not sure there was one between the 2016 track and 2017 base which are the same equipment.

Don't forget that the track package added the larger rear spoiler and stiffer springs.

Preventing limp mode wasn't the only reason for making the track pack standard. It may have been the main reason. Ford has a practice (been doing so since the 1960s) of adding additional optional equipment as standard equipment during a production run to keep things fresh and to add value in order to keep sales moving.
