2017 R at $25K ADM?

I own a '17 C7 Grand Sport and I highly doubt it would beat the GT350R in any form... I'll confirm when I receive mine lol but I don't see that happening. Yes it's quick but not that quick. It lacks the supercharger it would need and was $84k with NO ADM... The DCT is quick but not enough to overcome the power of the Voodoo. It's basically a Z06 body on a Z51 chassis with wider tires the rears are 13.5" and yes they're pretty sticky and it does hook up pretty good. You really have to try to get it to kick out even with the nannies off.

Standard Z51 Stingray pulls 1.08g as per magazine tests, with the R managing 1.10g. Thats comparing a car with 245/285 Super Sports to a car with 305/315 Sport Cup 2's.....

The grand sport will achieve the same 1.17-1.19g cornering as does the Z06. Between the two cars, there's less than 1 second difference in their acceleration times to 150mph.... Absolutely zero doubt that the GS will beat the R on track. Almost nothing in it for acceleration between the two, and the GS has better cornering and braking.

Ever hear of a place called Nürburgring... Take a quick look at the 100 fastest laps of all time. Low and behold sitting at #33 is non other than the GT350R ahead of the Z28 Camaro and I dont happen to see the Z51 C7 on the list.

Different drivers, different conditions, different days... On a track that doesn't see much proper racing anymore. I know it's an iconic track, but Nurburgring times really aren't that relevant. How about a same day/same driver comparison on a track people in this country might actually drive on?

I'll have to report with a seat of the pants review when I get my 350. I didn't order the Track Pack or an R because my cars will most likely never see a track :headbonkidn't get a Z06 because there's tons of them around and when I was picking up the GS they had 8 '16s they couldn't give away! The GS is limited and rare to see. I haven't seen another one around and this one was one of the first runs on a customer level from an early allocation. Helps to have good relationships with dealers I guess. GS was 8 weeks from custom order to delivery.

I haven't driven a GT350 or R yet so I could be very wrong. Hope it doesn't disappoint me but I doubt it...

I paid $10,000 over (long story)and was told someone tried to steal it from me by offering $50,000 over invoice last week before I took delivery. The person first offered $20,000 over then additional $30,000 if I would wait for the next allocation if there was one.
The dealer is a honorable and didn't budge from my deal. Thank you Green ford Greensboro!
So the demand is there for $25,000 over. That's just some info to help make a decision. My gut says anything under 100k long term will hold well with a R. We'll see.

I'm glad you didn't fall for it. This is the same dealer that tried to sell me a USED 2016 with 3K miles, a scratched up front lip, and a small dent and scratch on the front bumper for 70K lol.

They dropped the price in negotiations but I ended negotiations with the price still close to 6K over MRSP... AND IT WAS USED lol. I told them I just couldn't pay over MSRP for a used car with cosmetic damage. They said the best they could do for a '17 was 10K over for the GT350 and 15K over for the R.

I just went to Kentucky and bought a '17 at close to MSRP. :shrug:
I admit that I got very lucky. They had JUST dropped their price for a weekend sale and I beat out some serious buyers.

I guess different folks have different experiences. What I DIDN'T like was being reminded by the dealer in NC about how much they can get for the car... like they were doing me a favor by trying to sell it at that price. The actual sales rep was cool though. The other guy...

We won't even talk about the fact that they only lowered the price to what they were offering on autotrader. LOL.

You won't be disappointed, that is for certain. The 350's are an absolute blast to drive, most fun I've ever had in a car by far. Just don't expect the 350 to feel faster than the GS, because it won't. It is by far a more fun car to drive IMO, but the GS will be by far the more capable machine in regards to grip/handling.

Pretty amazing combo you're going to have there, enjoy them!

To the OP: I bought an R at $5000 over sticker, and for me $25,000 over would be far too much, primarily because I couldn't justify spending that much. However, after buying mine and driving it, they could have easily increased the base price by $20-25K and it would still be worth the money IMO, its just THAT good and fun to drive. Nothing else on the road like it!

i feel like the 350r and GS are both great choices to choose between. I know both have extremely good handling on the track but wasn't entirely sure what their acceleration times looked like.

I looked at Car and drivers Instrument testing of the Manual Grand sport and compared it to the Gt350 and the Gt350r. I know acceleration times isn't everything at the track but still was info i wanted to know.

Manual Grand Sport:

Zero to 60 mph: 3.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 8.7 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 24.1 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 12.2 sec @ 117 mph


Gt350/Gt350R: Numbers on the left are regular gt350 / numbers on the right are gt350R

Zero to 60 mph: 4.3 / 3.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 9.1 / 8.6 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 22.5 / 21.2 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 12.5 sec @ 117 mph / 12.2 sec @ 119 mph

Yeah you can't beat a manual transmission for driver involvement and fun. Downshifting the 5.2 is stupidly satisfying

The 8spd in the Vette is actually an AT though, with a conventional torque converter, not a DCT, though it is a fast shifting trans and certainly the faster trans option on track or drag strip.

You didn't get a Z06 because there's tons of them around?? Are you serious? Do you honestly think the GS will be limited production? By this time next year all you will see are GS's. They won't be rare, and you need to look very hard to differentiate it from a Z06, unless you have to have those over played fender stickers. I just saw fender hash marks on a Cavalier the other day.

Last week I was surfing Cars.com and came up on 2 Z06's, 2016's brand new....1 manual, the other an A8, both were stripper 1LZ's which is how I would buy them and both were just under $70K. For $70K, who buys a GS??? The biggest dilemma is a Z06 at around $70K, or an R at any MSRP....

I do think the GS will be faster per lap over an R although it's not always about that. Personally if it's down to just one or the other- even if I do like the GS as a whole package I'd still pick an R though to own. It's because of better sound, much more rare, and better cachet for the R... so those are pretty big sways in my book. But hell no would I pay 25 over for one.

Anyway, having both is a win-win pair for sure. But as stated the GS will not be rare... the GS production numbers will clearly & easily outnumber the R's. Zero doubt. There will be thousands of C7 GS'es yearly made. Mark my word. I'd bet a grand on this.

7:32 was never verified... I honestly dont see how it can be true given that the car is slower than the old 997.2 GT3 in every data point (0-60, 1/4 mile, 60-0, 70-0) and that car lapped it at 07:40. And GT350 is 8 full seconds faster? No way.

And its 1 second faster than the new 991 GT3RS which has 500hp, PDK, and it weighs 500 lbs less than GT350.....? Yeah right

I agree that 7:32 was never verified, but your argument loosing validity when you post stats like 0 to 60 and 60 to 0 and 70 to 0 times.

I think it means more to maintain speed through turns than it does to start and stop on that track.
