Ok, if you do the billet gears on both, do you still need to do the damper? How about other way around?

I know it's been beat to death, but this new failure has everyone worried!

Look at it this way...damper may or may not be a fix. OPG and TS are guaranteed a fix. YMMV.

Had the very same thought with Rohs thread going. Not going to waste any time and just do the OPG and CG and get it over with.

I'm "rolling the dice" with my 10-rib and ATI damper. Then again, I have a warranty.

I did all three, but I plan to turn up a bit higher than most.

And why did you do the damper? Does it provide any additional protection? In other words, have the billet gears ever failed to cause additional protection with the damper?

I think it's more the case that if you're shelling out the money to have the OPG/CG done it would really suck to still have a OPG failure due to harmful harmonics. That's the way I'm looking at it on my new motor, anyway. I'm pushing the limits of a lot of components now, though.

Damper doesn't just protect the OPG's when you start making power/RPM. This kills harmonics that will eventually damage bearings and other parts of the rotating assembly. Look at any good high powered build, you'll see an aftermarket damper.

Plus, I'm about to be turning up to 8500-9k depending on when the power drops. Gotta keep those vibrations in check at that level.

did anyone that replaced their own OPGs and pump gear replace any gaskets in the process? Going to order mine and just want to make sure I have everything I need.

No gaskets needed, but I did get new valve cover gaskets anyway.

I did the OPG and crank gear at the same time as the Whipple stage 2. I am currently using the stock damper, but plan to put the ATI on there in the next few months. They weren't that hard to install at all and I feel like I can floor it with confidence. Well worth it IMHO.
