Must be an Aussie/UK thing. All the American cars have this. It's the radio antennae for GPS/Sat Radio.

The GPS antenna ws under the dash, the roof antenna was for satellite radio. WIth Sync 3 they have changed the wiring and now split the roof antenna for both satelittle and GPS.

I saw my MY17 car for the first time today. The bump is bigger than I was expecting but not prominent (like the fin in BMWs) and didn't concern me, despite being nervous it would. Overall, I think we can relax.

I saw it today, and it looks ok. It is more or a 'blob' than a fin like on other cars i.e. BMW. Would prefer the fin but it doesn't stand out too much, it's the black gasket that makes it visible more than anything so the darker paints will hide it well.

And then there is this abomination on the rear of the convertibles... the 'blob' on the boot AND a tall flexi aerial :shrug:

So happy with my sync 2, no lump, I get to choose my wallpaper and I prefer the colour scheme.

My guess it may have something to do with the WiFi connection that you can get for the automatic SYNC3 updates.

There was a MY17 at one of the dealers I went to last weekend. I didn't notice the wart until the dealer pointed it out so it's not too obvious. He said it's for wifi for the Sync 3 updates.
