It took 3 grown men including me to remove the shift knob, my wrist still hurts!

That thread lock glue (Loctite!?) is the real problem, I did damage the oem knob while trying to remove it.

I posted the other day asking, to see if there was a pin or something I was missing keeping me from turning it anymore. Now, I'm a pretty big and strong guy, and I was able to get it a quarter turn and no more. And I actually turned it so hard, I couldn't even get it to go back straight. I bruised the inside of my right hand gripping it and turning it so hard, and turning so hard the shifter itself was rotating in the housing. Could not believe how hard this thing was on there. So went to the dealership to see if they had removed one before and had any tricks. I had tried the wet towel at home to no avail. Another big tech came out and both of us had both our hands on trying to remove this damn thing to no avail. Finally, I said fuck it and didn't care about damaging the stock one, just wanted it off. Had to put vise grips on so hard to bite into the leather, and as he was using both hands on the vise to rotate it, I had both hands on the top portion rotating it, and we still barely got it to come off. This is what it looked like after. And it was caked with damn red loctite on the inside. Absolutely dumb for them to use that mess on a removable shifter. But, I'm happy with my new shift knob, feels excellent, is a heavier weight and sits a little lower. I got it made so that it matched all the brushed aluminum throughout the cabin as well. Matches perfect.

I plan on keeping this car for a long time, and have no intention of switching out. I have had lathewerkz on all my cars and love the feel of them.

I had an aluminum shift knob on a car while I was in New York and then took it to Texas. Uncomfortable to the point that when I bought my Z I didn't even think about removing the leather knob. They get very cold and very hot. Do you have a trick for temperature extremes?

Crystalline window tint by 3M.
I paid $600 for window tint and did the top of the line in heat reflection. I got 5% all around and a 70% tint on the front windshield. The front though was just to get the reflection of the UV and heat. My car is so much cooler now when I get in. I can park directly in the sun and it isn't so hot when I get in that I can't touch anything. It can be 100 degrees out and the sun shining in on me, and I can ride around with the A/c fan set to level one and I'm perfectly comfortable.

I have been research that. Germany is really strict on window tint, so I may have to wait until I go back to the states.

It's amazing man. I was hesitant at first to drop that kind of money on tint, but worth every penny. And where I got it at, has a warranty that if/when I get a fix it ticket for tint being too dark, they will remove it, let me get it inspected and then retint it for me at no extra cost.

But you can also get it without it being a dark color. It is effective by reflecting what causes heat, not absorbing like old film. So regardless of darkness, it still works, where the old kind, it was the darker it was the better it worked.

The only way your getting red to let go is with a torch. When I had my GT I swapped it out for a GT350 knob. When tight the knob was not straight. Drove me crazy. Got mine lined up and backed off it so the reverse lockout would work. I then counted the time it rotated to get it off. Added some red locktite and an hour later it was welded to the shaft.

I've never liked the steel shift knobs or cue ball type knobs. I honestly prefer an Alcantra knob but unless it looks identical to the GT350 knob, I'm not swapping it out.

Yeah mine is a bit loose too. It does hold well enough that I have it clocked to 10 to fit my reach and grasp a little more naturally.

I'm thinking of replacing mine too.

Jeeze you'd think the stock 350 knob was the holy grail by some people's overreactions :lol:
I've played around with one in a 350, it's not that great feeling of a knob and too light. But just because it comes in everyone's favorite car, they automatically think it's the best thing since sliced bread.
