Centri vs. PD tuning for cat survival?

So here I sit going nuts like so many threads debating which supercharger to get. Whipple is the easy answer just because I have smog checks and want to keep my factory cats and not go through any kind of yearly work around to pass emissions testing.

I am wondering about the Paxton and having someone like Lund or Ken tune it. Whipple has stated that they use some sort of protocol in their tune that protects the cats from over heating and prematurely wearing out. Wondering if it's normal to request something like this in a centri tune. Knowing nothing about the tuning world are there any guys on here that mess with their own tuning and know if this is even a legitimate question.

Also comes into question can they tune a centri to keep all the sensors functional and passing with the OEM cats. Seems like most conversations on here are in emissions free zones and I'm guessing the guys who tune don't really ever delve into this, so it might not be a straight forward tune.

Basically I don't want to ask for something that's considered pretty far out of the normal. Back to my first point, Whipple is the easy answer as it's their standard tune that will pass emissions and has safety built in for the cat longevity.

Procharger systems 50 state legal. 100% bone stock car, even stage II. P1sc with procharger tune.

You could have Ken tune anyone of these superchargers and would pass a computer smog check, we tested that theory here in NC..

Do you have a visual inspection? Just OBD2 scan?

I personally like the Whipple, we ran their setup with over 10k miles on cats with zero issues and we made right around 650RWHP.

Give us a shout if you have any questions, we can get you a setup with a Whipple tune or with Ken tuning the system. Likewise for all other supercharger kits

There is no guarantee 100% when you go aftermarket that your going to pass an emissions test. But in general you shouldn't have any issues at all.

Whipple and procharger have off the shelf systems that are 50 state though

Thanks, yep, I knew about the procharger, actually was first on my list for a while. Actually they are all first on my list given what time of day it is and what i happen to be reading at the time. I live at 3500 feet above sea level and got to thinking the Paxton sounded cool because of a cfm rating I saw posted on another thread recently. Who knows, just wondering if the tuners routinely put something in their tunes to keep the cats from cooking when dealing with guys like me in smog states. Thanks.

Just a obdii test as far as I know. Never had a sports car, just jeeps and trucks, they never looked under the hoods with them. Was wondering if they look under the hoods on cars that have badass sounding engines like the GT. I'll keep you in mind when the time comes. Thanks.

Thanks for your honesty. I will keep you in mind when I get closer. Your beefcake special is definitely attractive. You work with tuners a lot, can you tell me if its normal for the centri tunes to have a form of cat protection when dealing with us guys in smog states? Heck, I don't even know what that would entail, somehow do they shutdown the blower somehow for breif periods? Not even sure how that would be done, as as far as I know its direct drive off the engine rpms. Thanks again.

Factory Ford (and GM) programing have cat protection in them.
The only time it isn't there is when someone removes it (tuners)

HOWEVER THAT BEING SAID:
I have seen stone stock S550's fail cats, when used aggressively, without proper cooling times.

If they fail and fly out the tail pipe, not a big deal.
If they fail and get stuck in the pipe, while your doing a full speed pull.... can hurt motor.

Just something a person needs to keep an eye on, and be aware that if your check engine light comes on... check things OUT!
Items like misfire codes, bank to bank fuel errors, or cat efficiency codes are all good signs that your cats are failing.

BEING "NORMAL" CAN LEAD TO LONG CAT LIFE:
All of our demo company owned cars still have the cats on them, and I am willing to bet there is at least a half million if not more supercharged miles between them all added up. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY car that has failed cats, is the C6 Vette.... after literally 10+ road racing sessions lasting hours at a time, plus drag racing, thousands of dyno pulls, and 30-40K street miles... she finally clogged a set. LOL.
