Hello, my name is Steve and I am addicted to my car!

And more so, I think I am addicted to modifying it. Every time I do something to it, I think I will be happy for a while but then I just get on line and order the next thing.

I have just fitted a hood scoop and I wasn't happy until the hood stripe was back on. When I picked it up from the graphics people I was happy for a while but on the way home, I stated thinking about the spoiler I have ordered and as soon as I got home I sent an email chasing up a ETA.

When I picked it up from the body shop after having the scoop fitted, the grill painted gloss black and the bonnet and wings completely re-painted due to stone chips, we were discussing what next.

I have arrange to have all the stripes removed and done by another firm because I am not fully happy with them.

I even ordered a bloody gear nob. This is after laughing at others because there is nothing wrong with the standard gear nob but then I saw the one online that is comp orange with the SAME black stripe as my car....its not that I NEED it, I just NEED it!

I want to change the wheels, dress up the engine bay, make it go faster, corner better.

I want to clean it....even when its not dirty. Hell, I go outside just to look at it.

I can do 250 miles on a business trip and when I get home and my boy says "Dad, can you drop my down my friends" I say YES, and we go the long way.

I think about it all the time, I talk about it every day.

They say that when you have an addiction you should talk to others about it but you guys just make it worse, putting all your silly pictures up and saying what you did with your S550 today.

Then I look at the delivery thread that I started up and I see all these people going through what I did to wait for their car and I think, are they going to have the same problem? or is it just me.

When I post pictures of my car and say what I have done to it, am I encouraging their addiction?

I said to my Mrs before I brought the car "Honey, its 35K, its family saloon money. And its economical....for a V8 But I didn't tell her about the 1k per month I would spend modifying it....because I didn't know!

Ooo, must go, I have a delivery. It may be my gear nob! Yes, yes yes, I will go straight out and fit it if it is. Then its just the rear spoiler to come and the stripes to have re-fitted and then..............

great read... made me chuckle.

My name is McX... I don't even have my car yet but lunch time is filled with S550 vids, get home from work and add to the 'mod spreadsheet', talk so much about it the Mrs just wishes the blasted thing would hurry up and get here. I'm addicted already.

Not sure if it's an addiction or it's an obsession. Probably both.
My car arrives in the next 4-6 weeks and I potter every night (not a euphemism) on the computer reading this forum and looking at various You Tube videos for far too long thatn is healthy in order to get my daily fix.
There's a rumour that the Home office are going to reclassify the Mustang from a sports coupe to a Class A drug.

I know we're you are coming from mate, but as we're starting modifying anonymous...

My name is Craig and I've not even got my car yet and already spent a small fortune on modifications covering handling, engine and aesthetics. What's worse is I know there's more to come, I think know what I want to achieve with the car and then boom I have my next crazy idea for it.

I can tell you for certainty it's driving my missus nuts!

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem, and boy I have a problem but I love it :headbonk:

I must have spent about ÂŁ10k on mods to my S197. I promised myself I would leave my S550 absolutely bog stock.

I have failed. Massively :)

Modding Anonymous?

Hi everyone, my names Steve, I bought my dream car, and then joined a forum... which lead to me turning my dream car into >THE< dream car... you lot fuel my addiction...Oops. Granted, it's all still cheaper than the wrap so far, so within budget :)!

On a more serious note - I was ill on Tuesday and Wednesday, I didn't get to drive the car, I got back in on Thursday and insta smile on my face once I heard the roar from the exhaust.

My girlfriend are parents family and friends think I'm mad when I tell them I've spent X on a car and will then spend my time changing it... Some people just don't get it - equally they see the finished product and agree it was worthwhile... Guess they just don't see the vision.

To be honest, it's not even an addiction to modding, I have to mod the second I get it, and I wont leave the car until it's done (Which left me out until 11pm in about 2c doing my door trim!). But it's an addiction to driving the car, to looking at it, and smiling like the child (You lot would say I am). I'll talk about it to anyone who's anyone. Anyone who says nice car sparks a 20 min chat of the car.

BUt, it's still more than that, it's the addiction to knowing I've achieved a dream, it's an addiction knowing that people respect the car and give it so much attention, it's an addiction to changing things to perfect my perfect vision of the car. It's an addiction to spend so much time learning about the car on forums.
Had I bought a used R8, GTr etc, would I be on forums? Probably not...

Definitely not. a modded Audi/BMW/Mercedes almost always looks tacky. (imo)

I wonder if we can sort out some sort of 'group buy' for counselling?
I have even started modding my mods!
