How low is too low??

Question for everyone here!

I saw a 6th Gen the the other parked outside a Target and I noticed that the car was so low you can barely fit a finger between the tire and the fender. Is it just me that it doesn't look right on a Mustang, muscle/pony car?

For an import car perhaps, but not particular on a Mustang. I think the perfect stance would be a two finger gap. Unless it's going to be a garage queen, show car or some sort.. lowering the car too low just kills the appearance.

What do you guys think is a good drop if you were to lower your car?

I don't know about how it deals with bumps and hills but I love the look.

I think it depends on where you live. CA roads suck so you may need more clearance and taller tires.

I'm in Phoenix and we have good roads that aren't all beat up. I've got about finger gap with 275/35 tires. Rides smooth. No issues going over speed bumps or driveways.

First one looks great, but if it were mine I'd raise it juuuust a hair to lessen the fear of rubbing.

Second one almost looks stock when seen immediately after the first one, but it looks good nonetheless.

I honestly think too much gap looks terrible. But their car, whatever they like I guess.

You realize that the fender edge isn't a flat wall, and the suspension will allow the tire to travel up into the wheel well, so unless you're off-roading or hitting every single pothole you can find, the first picture is perfectly capable of being driven every day.

what size wheels and tires?...what is the drop of the lowering springs you're using?

More than 1" drop is too much on this car. It upsets the suspension geometry, reduces street usability and creates an ugly non-concentric look between the wheel arch and the wheel, where the gap on the sides/bottom is wayyyyy bigger than the top.


If you like to ruin most of the good things about a performance car, drop it 1.5+" :thumbsup:

I like the look of both cars. I prefer the top one better. With the wide hips these S550 have and being able to run a wide tire out back, it really compliments the look of the car.

I am in my 40's too, and have had over 10 Mustangs. I would not go any lower than the picture above, however.

Here are pictures of my car. I am running Steeda ultralite linears with Koni shocks/struts and 20x10/20x11 wheels and 285/305 tires (35 series) with -2 camber up front and -2.1 out back. I have zero rubbing at all. The fenders are rolled from the factory and hitting some big bumps, my tires have never rubbed the inside of my fenders at all. If they did, it would tear my white lettering off my tires.

It can handle a little more than 1" fine. I run the Sportlines and they are great.

what size wheels and tires?...what is the drop of the lowering springs you're using?
It's not my car, I was just using it as an example.

If I were to do it, it would be pro-kits from Eibach.. max drop is 1" for me.

Remember too, most of those are bagged cars where the ride height can be adjusted.

Wow, good to know you can go that low with 20's and have no rubbing issues!
