After seeing some of the threads about underseal, I thought it would be interesting to have a poll about what people are doing or intend to do. As far as I see it, there are three options:
  1. Leave it as it is. This is as Ford intended it. The US and Canada cars aren't undersealed and they have far worse winter conditions (and likely salt) than we have to worry about and I'm guessing the cars are fine (maybe someone from one of the colder states can confirm this). However, I don't know if people take their own measures to protect their own cars. This could also turn into a bigger problem years down the line when cars start failing MOT's due to corrosion.

I've noticed a few people with imported Mustang's without underseal still in good nick after many years. Are these a lucky few, or do they genuinely do okay as a whole?
  2. Complain to Ford until they fix it under warranty. This could go on for a long time and may not even get anywhere.
  3. Get a company like Modurstang to underseal it. However, I'm guessing this would invalidate the corrosion warranty. Plus its extra money I feel people shouldn't be spending after forking out £30-40k for a car.
Personally, I plan on keeping my car for a long time and want to take care of it. When I do eventually sell it, I'm sure it will be much easier to if the underside is in a good state.

So, what is everyone else doing?

I'm sitting on the complain to ford fence, infact, I'm going to dig up stevec 's 9??? Think it was you...) mention of a chap called David in the warranty team, try and find the number and take it up with them some point this week when I get a spare 30mins!

Bearing in mind mine is a daily driver, I'm a little worried on the whole rust front, I wont put more than 10k miles on her every year, but still, want that peace of mind - but don't want to pay, and as ford should have done it properly the first time, it's well within the parameters of warranty to be done!

Yeah, I must admit, whilst I haven't decided, I'm certainly swaying towards this. At least it's done by them and if there and problems, it's then back on them to sort...

Spoke to my dealer just:
no idea

Spoke to their service dept:
no idea

Spoke to manager of their service dept:
looked at my reg number for a tsb, asked if I knew what the tsb was for, told him it was underseal, he said that he hadn't come across this, but he's going to do some enquiries and call me back.

TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) and Recalls are different, but yes, James, can you get us a copy if there is a form of TSB paperwork / email that says Mustangs undersealling will need doing, that way I can spread the word and make sure that everyone gets it done without being out of pocket for it!
