Kristian..... A repair doesn't compromise the tyre.....

ive spoken to loads of really good tyre fitters, (and they'd love to sell you a new tyre) but they say that a tyre, repaired to the proper standards by someone that knows what they're doing, is as safe as a new tyre..

They've been on courses, and there are proper standards that have to be met...

They will not repair any tyre if there is a chance of failure....

Your money your choice, but I'd be off to a reputable tyre place:thumbsup:
Yea thats what i would have thought, but the guy at ford talked about a patch, which may come off when the inside of the tyre gets hot apparently. Im going to keep the tyre and get it repaired properly, not at ford obviously. As it happens The dealership was my most convenient solution. P.s the gunk can be cleared before repair.

A spare wheel seems like a good investment after this morning.

Also made me think about our road trip to scotland. Chances are someone may have tyre trouble and if i have a spare handy it could be a quick fix as oppose to leaving someone stranded in the scottish highlands!

Obviously wont be aby good for the rear GT wheels though!

Don't think it's patch - used to be a cone shaped piece of rubber. Fixed from inside the tyre with the top of the cone facing out - the more pressure, the tighter the seal

Also need a wheel for the tyre so NO - not for the GT
Sorry, I meant spacesaver spare wheel. Why not for GT ? Different widths, yes but space savers are only meant as get you home and are never the same with as STD wheels anyhow

GT wheel needs to be able to get over the brembos. It's fine for the ecoboost... also GT runs two different style wheels front and rear, think the rear size doesn't actually fit the boot space for it! But someone with a GT is better to answer that, im just going off memory from the last discussion we had on it!
Kristian87 look for a 'barely used' Pirelli if you don't wanna fork out a fortune with ford btw. Can get some with like 100-500 miles for a bit cheaper round my neck of the woods!

Afaik once that gunk is in the tyre that's it, tyre is dead & has to be changed. I've had loads of punctures repaired over the years & they've held solid no issues. I even had one which was slightly towards the wall of the tyre repaired with a vulcanized patch ... i did have to sign a waiver for that one though.

You've just reminded me i have a screw in my rear passenger side tyre, pressure is holding up so it either hasn't pierced into the tyre, or it has and its blocking the hole so no air is escaping. I didn't want to run the risk of trying to pull it out in case its the latter of the 2 options
Must go get that checked.

I've got a spare front wheel in my boot, the cover is a bit high.
I haven't had to use it yet and I'm guessing it would go on the rear just to get me out of trouble

Is that a full size front wheel in the boot?

Does it sit down in the spare wheel well well?

Thinking about walking outta here and driving home. To get a mobile tyre repair service to do it...

It was a tiny hole that I could cover with my finger an the hissing air stopped.

I know this is a conversation I should be having with them, but you know what they will say!

Be careful using a front wheel on the back (on a GT)..... The offset is different, but also, the tyre size is different, as in width and circumference....

In general it's bad practice to put 2 different circumferences on an axle with an LSD...... ;)..
