Light tinting - legals

As I wait (and wait) in my head I am attempting to aim for that stealth look. Does anyone know a source where you can check the rules on light tinting in the UK.
I am considering it and if it looks in the slightest bit naff I will remove them but it would be good to know how these US kits would fare law wise in the UK. We seem to be a little over zealous compared to the US.

Oh and if anyone has a picture of a magnetic, black stripes, black wheels with black exhaust tips with said tints that would be helpful. ...... That would of course be a huge long shot !

I'm lead to believe that as long as you can see the reflectors any tint is legal, as long as it does not disrupt the colour of the lights behind it as well, thus, to keep it sensible I'd go no further than a 50% smokes tint on the rears, it'll let enough light through both ways, but also be enough on the stealth side .

I discussed my red tints with my friend, who's a police officer, he claimed that the most the police can give is a warrant to remove the item, or replace (Which isn't hard), however they'd have to prove they're not stock etc - so with red, harder to do - with black maybe easier!

Ordered from Anchor room. Sent them to my brother who was conveniently in the states at the time on work, got them brought back and fitted by Extreme Tintz and Wrapz in Burton for £30. Total cost was a little over £60 but worth it.

There's also a bloke who offers a full set and is European (Think he's from Denmark?) on the forums who sells the tints too, different vinyl, but same principle. [MENTION=14295]Kristian87[/MENTION] can tell you more as he got his from them (But hasn't fitted them yet the slacker!)

There's pictures of mine on the forums somewhere, if they're still working pictures, otherwise they're on my instagram (Instagram.com/steve_mander) alternatively, if you want pictures of the lights working whilst tints are on etc, happy to send some over, just PM me your number or facebook or something and i'll get them over somehow (Work right now so cant upload pictures :( )

As regards tints my biggest concern would have been an insurance company's view in the event of a claim. The police often won't bother with things like this unless you're generally up to no good. I spoke to my insurer about tinting the rears and they told me I could go ahead. I didn't mention the fronts at that point and i'm not sure where they'd stand on that.

note, smoked rears on this are over red lights, not white, effect will be different, will look darker

No worries ! What % are the dark ones, does it say? if so can get a good feel by just googling it ALso anchor room have a video on youtube of the dark tints going onto a car.

Don't think it says, but will check, trouble is they fit them onto red tail lights in the video, don't think they show them on white

Just be aware Anchor Room are a pig to deal with if something goes wrong and/or you balls something up. $15 shipping applies on anything. I had an issue with a couple of my tints which they refused to accept any responsibility for and wanted me to pay for more replacements + shipping.

AM sells a full tint kit for very little money. My tint guy didn't want to put it on at first but once he tested one piece he did the entire thing, said it was very good quality and easy to put on.
