While I wait, and wait for my car, I spend my time planning for the day I take delivery. On day 1 I'll probably bring the car to my detailer for a paint decontamination and correction before a full paint protection wrap. While researching that wrap I came across this:

2014 Audi R8 Full XPEL STEALTH matte finish film wrap – Austin, TX

I tend to hate car fads. Faux fender vents are absurd, stick family decals get an eye roll, and I feel an obligation to discuss making good life choices with any stanced or hellaflush car driver.

Matte is a fad, yes, but matte paint or wrap on a fast car can look amazing. It has to retain some sheen (I think "satin" or "semigloss" are better adjectives than matte) like the R8 in the link above.

I think this could look amazing on an Oxford White or Shadow Black GT350. What do you guys think?

For discussion, in some shots Canepa's R looks like it's matte. I think it's just the lighting and the backdrop, but it could be representative of what a matte wrapped OW R might look like.

I'm going to apply a matte silver wrap to mine. You can always take it off! :)

I was JUST thinking about that! I saw a really nice matte silver S550 5.0 yesterday and wished Ford made the GT350 in that color.

satin white or black finish would look killer! wrapped my GT in satin silver over a year ago would love to do it to the 350 as well.

Well..... I thought I was going to be original and be the only R in this color but I guess I'll give away my research so far. :)

3M Satin White Aluminum is the color I've found that looks most like an even metallic silver without getting that brown tint that I think a lot of matte "silver" wraps have.

I believe this is it:

Matte looks cool, but is a huge PITA to take car of. I wish I'd stuck to my original plan to have all my graphics done in 3M Satin.

Do you have a link to the CANEPA car? I think it's a 15' . . .Cause I saw it in the background in one of his videos well before the R's hit the "actual" market. . Pretty cool, white with no stripes.

You don’t want to know
This Mini was wrapped in Xpel Stealth film about a year ago, and it still looks great.

There are a few more examples on the Xpel site: http://www.xpel.com/xpel-stealth-film/.

My local Xpel installer quoted me $4,500 for my GT 350, but I didn't like the Stealth film on red - sort of went from Race Red to Dead Red (or a little like rattle-can PlastiDip).

from what i hear and see, the absolute best and easiest film to install is the avery products. they have a killer color palette and most installers will actually drop their price quite a bit if theyve installed avery vs other brands.

I had my roof wrapped in satin black. you really cant tell that is isnt paint until you touch it.

I've heard the same. But if you're keeping the same color as the factory paint I like the idea of a simple Xpel Stealth install.
