So as D-Day seems to be approaching, (as in, when i'll push the button on my new exhaust.) I've been speaking to my friend about how we're going to be getting the car up, doing the exhaust etc.

*He's a mechanic by trade.

I mentioned that the 2015-16 Ecoboost Magnaflow Competition came in 3 parts, which I believe it does. However he then questioned whether or not the box came with Gaskets. Now, I've heard of a gasket, however I have no idea whether of not I need them? what they do, my knowledge is they keep the aim in that tube etc? if this exhaust need them etc? If the clamps provided with the exhaust sufficiently cover this job? etc etc etc :)

CC in our resident mechanical know-how peoples: @Guy@NemesisUK djone101 @Gibbo205 @Enoch @ anyone else who knows.

*Yes we're all fully aware my mechanic knowledge is through the gutter levels of sh1te. :headbonk:!

Exhaust should come ready to fit with relevant clamps. From quick look at that exhaust the sections are sleeved, so the clamps do the job of sealing. You use exhaust paste around the joints (American Muscle show a tube as part of the kit) to ensure a gas-tight seal.

Legend, cheers! will report that one back to my mate. Was almost certain I'd have read something about people having to buy gaskets or whinging with how many of them exhausts have gone out so was certain I was missing something somewhere lmao! :headbonk:
Big_G did you use the paste/did it come with paste?

They don't come with any joint paste - and on all the instructional installation vids they don't use any!
However a smear of gum gum or similar exhaust joint paste is probably a good idea
Available from any car accessory shop but most garages would have some hanging about
When mine was fitted at a mates garage - I didnt take any but they put some on anyway!!
Magnaflows have great clamps and the best build quality that I have seen and as you say a deep deep sound - enjoy!

PS I think your comment on going for the cat back over the axle back is correct for the ecoboost but for the GT it's a shame Magnaflow only offer an X pipe which I don't like being a fan of H pipe as I prefer the deep base sound and an X makes it too raspy and a bit high frequency .. All IMO

Loud and Proud - May the NOISE be with you!

I should have said - you 'can' use exhaust paste - though personally I never have done as I use the longer sleeve clamps which form a tight seal, and it's messy stuff and reminds me of knackered Rovers ;) It's an MOT fail if you don't have a gas tight seal, but to be honest unless it's blowing like a bast' then I wouldn't worry (and you don't need an MOT for years anyway!).

Here's a link to the AM page http://www.americanmuscle.com/magnaflow-competition-catback-2015eco.html where there's a thumbnail pic of the sealant. Don't panic if you don't have any. Just do the clamps nice and tight and you should be fine.

Well, i'll take everyone's word for it. I assure you them bolts will be super tight, last think I want is expensive metal scraping the floor!

We don't use paste - manufacturers don't use it - if the parts fit together properly (and the Roush, Corsa and Borla's we've fitted all do) you shouldn't need it.

Gaskets are only used on flat joints - Mustang doesn't have any from the cats back.

Have fun!

Cheers again! Just needed to make sure :)! My mates used to working on old Volvo's and stuff, so, he uses gaskets a lot, if clamps fit the bill (And everyone is saying they are) then potential crisis averted, wont bother with the paste if none comes with it, sounds like uneeded mess on a shiny new exhaust :D

Cheers everyone, case closed !

This.

You only need paste for the bastard flat joints, particularly ones that use the bloody awful cylindrical / donut gaskets (my Alfa had a few of them).

Sleeve joints as used on the Mustang dont need paste... its bloody horrible stuff too, so all the better we dont need it :)

Howcome you didn't ask the person thats fitted one ... i.e me.
No gaskets required, sleeve over the pipe between the downpipe & first section. The rest slots into eachother & clamps down with a exhaust ring clamp.

Don't go too mad on tightening I think Magnaflow recomend 45ftlbs but no one uses a tourque wrench on an exhaust do they! We didn't!
The Magnaflow has 4.5" tips so they fill the space well! Make sure they are not touching the plastic surround!
Also instructions on the GT refer to drivers side .. So don't forget to reverse that to passenger side for our RHD!
I'm sure that you knew all that!!!! :amen:
