Wheel/Tire Recommendation for Budget

Okay... I'm looking for maximum street performance for the dollar. These crap all season P-Zero Neros are just tire spin city. No traction. Garbage, really. I live in Florida, so I can probably keep summer tires all year round. We only get a couple days each year under 50F (and I'll just be careful on those days).

Budget is around $2k-ish for wheels & tires. Looking for best bang for the buck, performance more important than looks, so I figure lighter weight wheel over prettier wheel.

Or I could keep the stock wheels and just swap really good summer tires... but these are those crappy 18x8 OEM wheels. Not sure if it's just a better idea to get rid of them and get something wider.

Consider that I don't know sh*t about wheels and tires.

I've looked at both and have no idea which size or tire combo to go with, performance wise.

TireRack sells those DST Hybris wheels. They are crazyyy light and look awesome. They only come in 19", however. I believe they would be in your budget too.

I would say 18 inch rims not sure what size or tires but that sounds the best option for performance

If you like the drifts I'd go with the 19x9.5 square drifts and do 275 square. Relatively light for the money. Wheels are like 650 or so for a set and about 26.5lb.

I'd take a hard look at some Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions for tires, IIRC they are around 200 each in popular 19" sizes.

For wheels, probably some take-off Performance Package wheels. 18s are fine, but the 8" width is a bit of a bummer.

If you can find a lighter 19x9"-10" wheel that fits though, go for it. Square rotateable wheel/tire setups can extend your tire life as much as 30%.

Unfortunately trading up to wider wheels is a cost which is hard to recoup, versus just getting the stickiest Michellin Pilot Super Sport tires that fit those 18" stock wheels.

Think just swapping to the super sports would make a difference worth the cost?

Yes, tires alone will make a huge difference. Worn hard all seasons vs highly regarded max summer tires will be a big jump. You could /probably/ squeeze 255s on there and they're only like 250 per tire. The MPSS is also known for longevity.

Run a set of MPSS and then see if you still want wider rims later.

If I currently had 18"s I'd drop 12-1500 $ on a set of GT perfpack takeoffs(wheel&tire). I can definitely say no "spin city" here. But I hear they wear fast but cant say ..at 4500mi I got 2/3 treas left..

My wheel/tire budget is similar to yours. I don't want to go over $2k total. I looked at all the combo deals on the common Mustang parts websites, but decided that it's best for me to buy wheels and tires separately, then have them installed locally in order to get the specific tires I want. Tires from TireRack.com, with shipping, mounting and balancing are going to run me about $1,000 alone, so that leaves me with a wheel budget of $1,000. There are some really nice, stylish, lightweight options available for $250/wheel out there.

I'm sure you can find quality summer tires for $200-250/each. Your wheel options won't be limited either. If you shop around or talk with some of the wheel sponsors here on M6G, you'll even be able to find some rotary forged wheels for $250/each.

I thought about going that route too, but the PP wheels are HEAVY. Plus, like you said, the P-Zeroes wear out really quickly.

Invo better than NT555s?

Yes. Same wet/dry capabilities but quieter. The NT555G2's are more traditional looking but a bit louder. The Invo's are really goofy looking tread pattern but dead quiet. I will say they don't track as straight as, say, a Continental summer tire with a bunch of solid ribs. I'd bet the NT555G2's do a better job of providing that "on center" feel. Invo is a good tire, I would not shy from it.
