I REALLY like the look of this scoop, but I can't bring myself to spend $450 and drill holes in my hood for a scoop that's merely cosmetic and not even functional.
People put lots of things on their cars that are only cosmetic and that includes the factory. Besides scoops there are, splitters, spoilers, diffusers, side skirts, even the extractors on the GT.

Everything you listed is technically functional.

But, in any event, have one on me!

Well, other people are free to do what they like with their money. That's the beauty of the aftermarket parts marketplace. It has something for everyone! As for me, I'm going to try not to add or swap out any parts on the car that don't provide some sort of function or benefit.

A month ago, I was SURE that I wanted this hood scoop as well as the MMD quarter window scoops, side scoops and rear window louvers. Then, when I looked at what it would cost me to add a bunch of non-functioning pieces of plastic to my $38k car, it hit me. I was thinking of spending $1,500 on parts that would do nothing but add weight and drag to the car. For that kind of money, I can buy a functioning fiberglass ram air hood or some long tube headers, among other things. Parts that will actually make a real difference, as well as look good and/or sound good.

I would certainly not fault anyone else for what they want to do with their money. I'm not that type of guy. I may not agree, but it's not my money so ultimately not my choice. We all love our S550s and mod/tweak them how we see fit. I'm just going to be extra cautious and thoughtful with what I do to mine. :)

Especially for a lighter vehicle. But not sure how silicon would hold up to dust, pollen, etc......

I am ordering an Oxford white tomoro and I have noticed that body panel misalignments are more noticeable as well. so, yeah, the gap on the hood scoop would stand out more on the white hood.... Wadaya do????
After I inspected my DIB upon pick up for body alignment issues with a fine toothed comb, I saw a white S550. Boy, white unfortunately shows gaps and their variances more. Especially the front edge of the hood and the black rubber seal beneath (so an eye won't be drawn to a 1/16" gap along edge of hood scoop. And the Foose's flow w/ oem strakes looks way more visually appealing than the visual angles apparent on the side edges of the Rosh scoop, IMO. On the bright side, the rest of the car looks clean and awesome for more than one day after washing it! Fair trade. :D

Thanx for this. I have a friend who is a good body man. I think any gap variances would be easily fixed by him. :)

My body shop is installing the scoop on Wednesday along with the Steeda front bumper cover and 5K hids while I'm traveling for work. Can't wait to get back on Friday to see the results!

I'll post some pics when completed. By the way, my GT is a Ruby Red CS

I'm waiting to see one of these in person before I pull the trigger. Based on pics, I thought I wanted the Roush scoop but when I saw it in person on the car I decided I didn't really care for how it fit/integrated with the spears.

probably bottom support to connect the scoop to the hood since the scoop lays from spear to spear unlike roush sitting inside of the spears.

"cut a hole in the hood for the scoop"...what happens if you're driving in a heavy rain. Wouldn't this be equivalent of spraying your running engine with a garden hose?

Nope, unless the rain was coming down sideways lol. A little water on an engine isn't going to hurt it. Water IN the engine will.
