You are correct, it isn't painted, but I washed and waxed it like the rest of the car and it looks great. Like a mirror.

All shiny plastic likes to be waxed. When you see cars with fogged out headlite covers,they were never waxed.If they were they would still be clear.
Yes, the rear panel is dust attracting plastic.

Meguires PlastX Polish works great for removing any scratches, swirls, and haze on the panel before applying sealant or wax. It's not painted as others have said. I just learned this the hard way while beginning my first total car paint correction.

Curious if it helps keep it any cleaner. My decklid just pulls crap out of the air and is dirty 30 minutes after I finish washing it. Certainly not the best place to put a gloss black panel, shows every spec of dust!
