What drag tires work the best ?

Let me tell you this and Sam from coastal knows he was there my first night. I had just bought my brand new 295/45/17 MT street radial 2's the very ones they stopped making. And I still couldn't cut better than a 2 flat 60 but after a short break in and a couple more trips to the track I cut a 1.594 60 foot and I'm currently the fastest intake tune and tire car on the forms at 11.787 @ 116-117's with no other mods besides those 3 stock exhaust stock everything. Oh yeah and that was in 1,900DA love that nice Florida heat.

You are not the fastest. Youve been told that before.

Who's running with just intake and tune faster than 11.787 in equal air? At 1900 da? Because the two guys who ran 11.773 and 11.778 had exhaust and driveshafts and skinnies.. And in much better air..

Lol what.. You're comparing 6 second cars traction to your mustangs level of traction? You think it's a bad tire because guys with 6 second cars weren't dead hooking lol?

My last 5 out of 7 passes have all been 1.2X sixty foot times - driven to and from the track.

Pulling the wheels a decent amount in the air. Car also hooks from 40 MPH on the street .

Not sure what they are doing wrong, but I am here to tell you, there is no way that a 295 MTII is going to outperform a 305 R. Not happening. (I have used both on this car BTW)

Where did I say the 295MT is outperform a 305 R ? I said they stopped making the 295 and I need a good replacement and I asked what is out there that is working for you guys ..

Well I guess I'll try a set of the ET Street R, P305/45-17 and see what happens ... I have to replace one of my front runner also ...One of the M/T front runners has a bad tread wobble .. It was that way when I got them but I don't think M/T will warrantee it ..That is another 200 bucks to spend .. :(

The 3572 is the one I would go with, the M&H is a fall back if you only have a 9 inch rim or the 3572 gets sold out like it did before.

I use the Nitto NTO5R 285/40/18 right now on the car and have to walk into the throttle, there just a so so tire as you know. That 3572 appears to be a real race tire, which is what in looking for, but want a radial as I cant give up power down track with the ecoboost. These cars make so much TQ its hard to hook them, at least mine does. I appreciate your help very much.

11.68 @ 117 tune and tire only, stock intake even.

another car ran 11.771 @ 118.3 was drag radial and axleback with a tune, stock intake too

I never said that you stated that. But, let's point out your words in your posts.

But the people I have talked to that have used them say they are crap and will not hook like the old M/Ts did ..

People told you the MT II is better than the R. You seemed to have a concern about this being the case. Right?

I'm not sure who would be telling you the Rs are worse than the old ones. They hook much better, but do not work well after being driven on for long periods of time. The 275 racemasters are also decent, but nothing like the R or a Hoosier slick. Ive used every 17" tire out there and the R is hands down the best thing available at the moment.

Well they didn't have to tell me , I watched it first hand Weds night at ShowTime ..There where 3 very pissed off people running them .. All low 6 second cars that pull the wheels pretty easy on other tires .. I just don't want to make a mistake , 600.00 dollar mistake ..:frusty:

Now you said that those people didn't have to tell you, rather, you witnessed how bad the R performed in person.


So I simply replied in shock based on what you posted, and shared my results. Maybe I should have put crap instead of sucks - but either way, I can confirm after using both sets that the 305 R is better than the 295.

I apologize for misunderstanding your wording, but I think most would comprehend it as you believing the 295 MTII is better from what you have seen and heard. :cheers:

You wouldn't have an issue with that tire on a 9.5, it's not ideal but it will work. I'm not a big fan of the way the Racestars look on a S550 with the 305 but that's offset not width.

Pretty sure you could not do that at showtime test and tune with that tire , slicks yes ... Just about any tire works at BMP we all know that ..But showtime is a different story as you very well know... Now do I take a chance on the new M/Ts or just get a set of slicks ..?

Thank You, I dont like the Race Stars very much either. I will eventually have some Bogarts made, but these were on a great sale, they will work for now. I still cant get over how heavy these and the Welds are. I called rich at Bogart and he can make me a set a few lbs lighter a wheel.

I hear you on the slicks ..With my new tune I got today I picked up 93 foot pounds of TQ ...Slicks might be the way to go .. I'm so on the fence on this , M/T 305/45/17R or Hoosier slicks ...:shrug:

I have used the Bogart wheels on 4 of my race cars , Great wheels and not heavy at all .. My Weld RT-S wheels are pretty heavy for a drag wheel ... They work great and look good but a bit on the heavy side ..
