Deck Lid question

Is it possible to just remove the massive GT faux filler cap and place a Pony over the top (using 3M) and it will cover the holes? Therefore keeping existing deck lid trim?

Or do you need to just replace whole thing with the Eco version?

In which case can I just buy the chrome pony to replace my big circle with a pony in? Any online guides how to do it and if the holes from the faux filler will be visible if replacing with just a chrome pony?

I thought I was going to have to fork £200 on this mod! Might be saving me a few quid here mate

I believe you can remove the badge which is held on by plastic rivets/plastic welds.

You need to cut them off with a stanley knife and the new pony will slot into a couple of those holes and cover the rest.

We took one to pieces out of curiosity. If you look at the back of the panel you can see the ends of the emblem housing which are heat staked. There are six of these.

You are left with this:

You can see the outline of where the round emblem was mounted.

The emblem itself is made up of four parts:

There's also a foam gasket between the panel and the emblem.

I don't think any other emblem would work on the GT panel without leaving holes.

Ok looks like the Pony would need to be massive to cover holes, could get the panel wrapped Gloss Black £50? Then just stick badge on?

Don't think so, looks like the holes top right and left would put the badge in a weird space.

You could wrap over it but the holes would be INCREDIBLY weak.

I'd suggest using a filler of sorts, sanding over to smoothen and then paint the filler black. Probably the quickest and cheapest DIY job you could do on it.
