Just to say, I opted for the extended warranty.

Extra 2 years cost £590, but has to be taken when you take delivery (and pay).

The way I look at it, £295 a year is peanuts compared to the cost of, say, a new alternator (or mirror projector lamp!).

So, 5 years peace of mind. As long as car is serviced and standard of course.

I think your Dealer has looked at the wrong price list.....otherwise I'm buying my warranty from Teeside

Looks a bit like the two tiers of Diamondbrite...

Latest price list 29/02/2016
Ford Protect Classic 4th/5th Year Extended Warranty Prices 5 Years £540.00
(Service Plan) Ford Protect Premium Plan Years 3 £590.00

The extended warranty should cost £540.00. As the warranty was not available when I took delivery my dealer cleared it with Ford to buy it now.

My dealer also says I can pay for the service plan £590.00 when I go for the first service.

Well, according to the paperwork that's sat in front of me - 2 Year Warranty Extension was 491.67 ex. vat, ie £590?

Now you mention it - I do recall that the 3 year service plan was £590 too - hmmmm.... will check, although the invoice was generated by the computer system and he did say that it had only been possible to add for a week or two (but then again, this is a dealer salesman so I take that with a pinch of salt)?

If someone could confirm with a pending order I'd be grateful as I'll be chasing them for the extra £50!

Just checked the Ford site, but price list is from 2014!

For the 29/02/2016 Mustang Pricelist go to the Mustang configurator page choose Brochure then Pricelist then Mustang and download. Warranty price is on page 10.

I paid for mine 0ver the phone so it's possible I wasn't charged right as I'm waiting for paperwork in the post.
You're right  . Unless it's changed since Feb, it should have been £540, not £590!

Will call them this morning.

I still can't understand why they require us to purchase this up front rather than at any time during the warranty period. Looks like I better find some more for delivery day....

My dealer contacted me to say I could buy the warranty even tho I already have the car. They were charging 890 for the 3 year service plan though.

This. It's money in their coffers for 3 years. It's also a way of protecting themselves from people finding an 'issue' with their car at the end of the warranty period, but sitting on it so they can extend and then make a claim.

I'd tell them to FoxtroT Oscar!

£890!??!?! That's insane. The Ford service plan is only £590 (which I didn't take as, despite the Ford Service stamp, I don't trust main dealers at all to do the job properly - seen to many horror stories from my mate who's a mechanic to prove this) - sure you didn't hear them wrong?

£590 for the extra 2 years is very good value I think. Even if I were to sell my car on year 3, selling it with a manufactures warranty will aid the sale.

My business partner paid £1,000 for his XK 5.0, I know his car is older but puts things in perspective.

And Ford does it again....."Oh we don't offer service plans and haven't done so since I have worked here" said the service girl behind the desk to me and the dealer when we inquired about it on day of paper work!! I will now be popping in to find out what is offered to me and also to find out what the individual services cost because I don't plan to keep it past my 3 year term so technically I will only need to pay for 2 services and not the 3rd.
