Anyway, now I'm starting to think that a turbo charged 302 is a possibility for the Z/28.

Are you ignorant? Or just pretending? The crying over who's engine smaller and lighter is so lame. Let it go. Give up. Who gives a fk. The weight and outside dimension has nothing to do with anything. The only benefit of a smaller outside dimension has is if you were trying to squeeze something into a narrow frame rail or engine compartment. I'm so tired of people bringing up engine weight and dimension.

Yet you kind of started the argument with 5.2 vs 6.2.

Just saying. ;p

I agree though. It's been beaten like a dead horse.

Most people are aware of the differences.

Really? So a bigger, taller, heavier engine has no impact on how a car races or handles? Why not just mount the engine on the roof and see how well your car takes the curves. :frusty:

I didn't start a argument. But the GM guys don't like to hear the truth when a smaller displacement engine has been toe to toe with them. My point is the z28 is no slouch and for the 75k it wasn't a bargain. Ford once again proved more can be had for less and it's done so more in the past. It's called aFORDable

yes the all new gt350R beat the Z. But for me ( if I were a Ford fan) I would be worried what an alpha Z, with a new engine, would do. You gotta remember the Zeta was old and the LS7 got announced in 2005. Not exactly cutting edge, and it was still within 1.5 seconds of the all new R with its amazing everything (because that car is absolutely amazing!)
Everyone tends to forget that the six gen mustangs gained lot of weight, and unfortunately the gt350 and even R version got affected by it. Ford did its best to loose a little weight from the R version with more aluminum, carbon fiber wheels, rear seat delete etc. In reality the car is still heavy but an amazing performer. Imagine if it was around 3400 lbs.

The fifth gen camaro was a boat but GM, to loose weight, took all junk out of the z28 except the rear seats i believe. I remember The Pill having a blast comparing the next gen gt350R to the old gen z28 and it turned out the gt350R barely edged it out on the track. I did warned him back in the day that the real competition starts when the six gen z28 comes out.

Now for the alpha platform z28, if GM takes all the stuff out of the ss and puts lighter components with rear seat delete etc, as in gt350R, then i m expecting a 3500 lb z28. My guess is the car will be as fast as the corvette with the z51 package. If the z28 comes out with the rumored lt5 engine with 500 hp or more, then, we might get to see something really incredible.

Good grief. You guys arguing engines size are literally talking about 10 pounds of weight on a 3800 pound vehicle. Does anyone even know what engine is going to be in a Z28 yet?

I don't think that's true at all. You don't think GM could build a 5.0 DOHC to match the coyote's performance? I have no reason to believe they couldn't. They chose to stick with a different technology for their v8's.

Just look at the V6. It's a 3.6 DOHC making more power than the 3.7 in the mustang. Ford and GM simply chose a different path to reach similar goals. I think it's great we have options.

...says the guy who brought up the 5.2 vs 6.2 debate.

I mean if you want to debate that's cool but no need to get too upset about it.
I'm not the one upset.

You don't get my point. Point is the 5.0 vs 5.8,6.2 etc. fords always used less and made it work.

The Z/28 was a hell of a deal when it came out. There was nothing close to it for the price as far as track performance went.

The cost was justifiable based on parts/labor and design time. Show me where it wasn't. I'm not saying it was a bargain for someone like me because I wouldn't pay it. But it was for someone who wanted one hell of a track car for that price at the time.

The same people who try to say that the Z/28 wasn't worth that are some of the same ones that try to justify the 20k+ mark up on the GT350 and even higher. (Not saying you. Just making a generalization. Most people wouldn't pay it.)

Not saying the Z/28 didn't have mark up but plenty of people payed damn near the same price or even way more for a GT350.
