Because the GT350 vs ZL1 thread went over so well... I thought I would post a link to the newly released spy photos of the 6th gen Z/28. There doesn't seem to be any opening in the hood for cooling like the ZL1. Could this mean that there will be an NA motor and not the LT4? Could this mean GM will up the power on their LT1 or create a whole new LT engine? I can't wait to see the specs on this and see a head to head against the brilliant GT350R. So as before what do you guys think the outcome would be? As before same day, same driver, same conditions, in a vaccuum.

EDIT: It would help if I posted the link.... Sorry all. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=445328

There does appear to be a mesh section of the hood cover/camo. Now it could be there just to keep the fabric from ballooning up at speed, or it could be a vent in the hood.

Maybe it will be a stripped down ZL1 with track accessories?

GM's just following the model that they put down with the Gen 5, only they flip-flopped the 1LE and ZL1 debuts. It's mostly just GM being lazy and not thinking of new things to do.

Gen 5:
ZL1
1LE
Z/28

Gen 6:
1LE
ZL1
Z/28.

New parts, same model, same pattern.

I am not sure if it will get a unique LT engine.

Maybe it will have something like a hot tune on the LT1?

Given the C7 Grand Sport used the same LT1 as the standard model (with the same specs) I don't think we'll see any unique motor in the Z/28.

If GM follows the same model [as the C7], I'd assume ZL1 body parts, non-motor running gear (brakes, tranny options), maybe a few unique-to-the-model aero components.

The only reason that I could see a totally new V8 coming to the Z/28 was if GM is planning on putting that same engine into the mid-engined vette when it finally comes out.

GM did trademark the LT5 a few years ago. Wonder if that could be a new 7.0L DI motor. Still, I would think it would be unveiled in the Vette first.

I forgot about the LT5. GM was having trouble with a high powered NA motor meeting emissions. That was a few years ago. Maybe they worked the bugs out of it. American car companies are killing it right now.

Yeah, that's my thinking.

The Vette has usually been the entry point for high performance development, receives the higher output variant, and we just got a new model C7 (the GS), without a new NA motor.

GM seems like they've been pretty definite about not giving the Camaro more HP in a comparable product line. Heck, even the ZL1 has less HP than the C7Z06 - albeit a trivial difference.

To be honest, I was pretty surprised the GS didn't get a new motor, or at the very least a tweaked LT1 for another 25-ish or so HP bump (especially since they don't need to worry about bumping up near an NA Z06 any longer).

I'm not quite sure what it'll have. It could be a hardcore version of the ZL1 including the same engine. If it stays naturally aspirated and keeps the regular LT1 as did the C7 Grand Sport, I just dont see a point to it though. Sure it could compete against the GT350R but I have a feeling it'll creep past ZL1 prices. Then once again ford will be doing more with less. Who knows?
