To prepare my 2016 GT for the show field at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA, I have scheduled to have my car detailed by a professional detailer. I have always detailed my own cars. I think I can do a better detail than the average person. I think of detailing to be a stress reliever. Getting out in the garage, turning on the music, and just zoning in on cleaning and polishing the car/motorcycle. It has taken me both Sat and Sun to finish.

I still have my other cars I can detail. I just ordered 'Wolfgang Uber Ceramic Coating' to test on my wife's car. I read up on the other coats like this such as: Pinnacle, McKee's, Optimum, Duragloss, GTechniq, Chemical Guys, CQuartz, CarPro, Sonax and Wolfgang. Some of them like GTechniq and CQuartz (I'm sure others) have the 'light' version for sale to general public. They also have 'stronger' versions available only to trained detailers. It seems like there is a never ending new product released weekly. As much as I enjoy detailing my cars, filling my garage with the smell of a high quality carnauba pastewax... nice. What I liked about Wolfgang's product is that it seemed like a forgiving coating to work with. Others have instructions like, do not reapply after flashing or it will stain the paint. I also read some horror stories of people getting in over their head with the coatings and having to strip their car with 1600 gauge to remove problem area's. Some say, do not use car washes, touch-less or other. The chemicals will react badly to the coating. Some can take a wax or sealant on top of them to help the coating. I'll be glad when we all switch over and handling them will be second nature to all. Seems like a lot to learn and understand.

I agree to the comments of people not in favor of coating that any car will look awesome once it goes through the process of paint correction and removing swirls and scratches. Once all the road tar, grease, old waxes and sealants are removed. Polishing, waxing and sealing from an absolute clean base will result in a fabulous looking paint job deep with gloss every time.

My research led me to believe that Modesta is one of the best coatings available. I liked what I heard from the videos and write-ups in forums I was able to find. The difference to wax is obviously length to time it stays glossy and clean. What we has always wanted, longer lasting wax and sealants. Safe on trim that is does not leave that white haze on it.

When I look at the cars treated with Modesta, they are completely stunning to look at. The level of gloss and shine is truly 1,000 miles deep. Modesta calls it a unique 'candy like' gloss. I am expecting that once treated properly and if I maintain it correctly, no more waxing and it is supposed to last years. I am looking forward to having my wheels coated so that the brake dust will have a much more difficult time attaching to them. The guy I contacted to do my car said it would be a 3-6 week curing time to get to full gloss and hardness. For that reason, I am having my car done 4 weeks before Carlisle.

I have a flashlight coming that is good for finding swirls. I will take pics before it goes for the Modesta coating and after to show side by side the difference. I'll have to create a situation that the light around me will be the same too. Just to be as accurate as possible for before/after.

I am wondering it anyone else has experience with Modesta? What is the upkeep like afterwards? It looks like there are maintenance sprays to use to help the coating. Looks like a spray to be used at every wash?

Modesta is hands down one of the top coatings I've seen. I plan on coating my car as well once i paint correct it in the upcoming weeks. Ill be using Cquatz UK. Im not sure if Modesta has a topper or maintenance spray for upkeep. Everytime I wash my car I spray wax it to help keep it protected. Do you mind if I ask how much you were quoted for the process? Also the detailer said 3-4 weeks to fully cure? I assume he's not using heat lamps to cure the coating after?

Part of the email did mention baking. Here is what he said about time and the Modesta process:

"The job will take roughly 2-3 days, and the ideal window will be about 3-6 weeks before the show. This ensures the coating will be fresh, but also fully cured. Generally it takes about 2 weeks for the coating to fully crosslink and achieve maximum gloss(it will still have 80-90% of the gloss when you pick it up)."

I am completely trusting this guy and his knowledge of the process. From our correspondence, I fully believe he is the real deal. His face book page also has car after car looking gorgeous. I am excited an can't wait.

We are picking up a fiat 500 for our oldest daughter in a week or so. I do plan on driving that while the GT is off at a beauty spa.

I made some enquiries about getting mine coated before Christmas, but to honest I was overwhelmed with the choices and ended up just buying a Griots Orbital and doing a paint correction myself using Adams line of products. Turned out better than I could have imagined, but took me a solid 10 hours of non-stop graft that left my back sore for days.

I still feel like I would like a coating, and Modesta sounds like the real deal. I'll be subbing to this thread and looking out for photos. Any before/after shots would be great for comparison the coating gloss VS a typical wash n wax level of finish.

I picked up my 2016 Ruby Red and 2 days later dropped it off for a two step paint correction and then the Modesta coating applied and I love it! I wash it weekly with a car wash shampoo then once a month I wash it with the Modesta shampoo and give it the Modesta one shot detail spray. I haven't waxed it once since I picked it up in October of 2015 and it looks brand new. Everyone who sees it always asks how I keep it so clean and why doesn't it have any swirl marks. I highly recommend it however I would have it done by someone who is a licensed installer for Modesta as they use an infra red lamp to actually bake it on the car and it's a process I would not want to take on my own. Feel free to check out my build thread for some photos. Best of luck with your decision

Doesn't Modesta cost like 1k+?

I'm going to get some professional detailing done and saw the shop was charging around that price. Not sure what other have paid.

Yes, Modesta is an expensive coating. From what I have read and seen photo's of, it seems worth it. I haven't read one bad experience with it.

I bought a coating to test out myself on others cars I have. I normally clay at least once a year and do a full exterior detail twice a year. My 2005 Red Focus ST is the car I am really interested in seeing.. Can't wait for a nice weekend day. I bought a foam cannon this year to help me wash.

I am having the 2016 done so it will look amazing and be easy to get ready for the car shows this summer. I will still do my normal prep on my other Mustang, but that one is a pure queen. She only comes out on nice days. The 2016 is driven daily, and I'm looking forward to the easy wash and prep. My wife and I are going to enjoy the cars and people rather than fretting around detailing all summer!

Oh, yah. I am completely going with Modesta for my 2016 Mustang. I have scheduled the detailing for the first week in May. I am REALLY looking forward to it.

My new flashlight arrived today to be my new swirl finder. I am charging the battery now. The flashlight is a BYB Super Bright CREE T6 LED Zoomable Handhald Flashlight. Hen it's time to drop it off for the cleaning and coating, I will use this Flashlight to document some before and after pictures to see the difference.

My wife asks once what the cost was. I was able to change the subject, but I saw in her eye's she is ok to me. Repeatable things like this and all. I did hear her talking to my sister later. She said, 'At least it's car parts' he's spending his money on. Okay, not a strong win, but I will take it. I am negotiating a new car for our 21 year old daughter. Not a Mustang... Looking a Fiat 500 or Ford Fiesta. I think this is taking the heat off the Mustang Parts and cleaning.

Looking forward to seeing the results man!

Those Fiats have horrible owners satisfaction and the reliability ratings haven't been very good either. But that's coming from a guy who hates Fiat.

UPDATE: Tomorrow is the day! I am totally charged up to be taking my car to a professional Detailer to have Modesta installed.

I am expecting to pay close to $1.5K. I know some in this section think that is crazy. I do have all the tools, knowledge, location and ability to do a paint protection on my car. Some believe that it is marketing hype. For them, to look at the time, technique required and results, search for Modesta install on YouTube. There is a guy in Sweden that tapes a lot of his Modesta work. He is fun to watch. Entertaining, funny and very talented.

I do not have such a big head to think I know everything about detailing and have the techniques down to do everything perfect. I probably care for my Mustang to much that I want to be sure she gets a perfect paint correction even though I performed a paint correction, polished and used a 4-6 month sealer on her last November. (jet seal. I recommend it, it performed great thought the winter) I always have a lot to learn in everything I do. I hope I never stop having that attitude.

I have both my cars entered in some cars shows coming up. I am detailing my 1966 Mustang. If you are going to the Ford Nationals in Caraisle, PA, we might meet.
