So I got a problem. I take my '16 gt pp to grapevine for cuz my Bluetooth went out. They did a tire scan on my way in and said my rear tires need to be replaced. I have heard the P Zero's don't last, I have 7k miles on them. But the way they are worn is suspicious.

I had them do an alignment check and they said everything was fine. It sure looks like there is a Camber issue. Should I get a second opinion? I don't want to throw a new set on and have those eaten up too.

Thanks

I use the same dealership as you and while I can read your vehicle summary just fine I do not know what is normal in tire wear. It's obvious they are wearing a bit more on the outside.

So in short you're own question seems to answer itself. I would go get a second opinion. Duasold design does alignments, they handle lots of lowered cars if you want to get a second opinion from somebody other than another dealer.

Thx Ron. They gave me the alignment specs today and they match factory specs. Ford authorized a new set of rear tires. I wonder if ford has seen this before and just want to be done with it by giving me some new tires. Either way I'm happy. I guess we will see if it happens again on the pirelli's.

Cool. I was looking at the continental extreme contact dws 06's. But now I can save up a little longer. Seriously though I have no confidence in the p zeros on twistie 2 lane roads at speed.

In this weather for sure, the cold really affects traction. I can't nail it until well into 2nd or I get loose, and I broke the rear loose in a curve a couple of weeks ago. However in Summer when I got this car, it stuck like glue in that same curve on 90 degree days. Seems like it starts behaving better when temps are over 70. It's just the way those Pirellis are designed. At 7k miles I have about 3/32" less out back then up front. The fronts look almost new.

Regarding the original post, camber doesn't affect wear as much as you would think. I ran close to 2 degrees on another car and the tires wore reasonably well. Make sure the toe is set properly. Most cars are somewhere between dead straight to very slightly toed in. You never want it toed out because the car will tend to wander, especially on crowned roads and you will have to correct the steering more.

Mine wore in exactly the same pattern and I am always on top of tire pressure, running 32psi. The reason they are wearing is that Ford ships the cars with some rear toe instead of at 0 toe. If you have an alignment and get the rear set to 0 it'll give you a little more life in the tires. Also, getting them switched side to side to even the wear at around 5k miles would have helped as well but dealerships won't do a rotation if it requires removing the tire off the rim even though they may advertise rotations and oil changes free in the first couple years.

Unless you have directional tires it won't matter if you rotate side to side.

If you are getting uneven wear, with where to the outside of the tires, and you move them from side to side and maintain the same direction, then you will even out the wear. That is how you rotate staggered tires that are directional.
