Sync 2 to Sync 3, wonder if its true...

Couldn't find it posted anywhere so figured I'd share with everyone. Wonder if its true, TBH i don't see how it wouldn't be. I'm guessing it's just a new module behind the screen.

Seems to be. There was another member here who thought it could be done for a lot less. Cost will likely drop once the Sync 3 head units become more available. I had an Impala rental car last week with Apple CarPlay and it was cool. Might need to upgrade once Sync 3 gets CarPlay later this year.

For $2k? hardly seems worth it to me. If it can be done for cheaper id consider it. I am pretty content with what I have otherwise.

That before and after screen shot really doesn't do then any favours Sync 3 looks like some toy from. The 90s in that photo

It is true.. and 2k right now is only if you want factory NAV.. I can get APIMs for Sync 3 without nav now for much less.. I could set up an upgrade to sync 3 for 1100 maybe less.. but you wouldn't have factory nav.. but when car play rolls out.. you would just plug in and be ready to go..

This process has become so confusing over the months. But this sounds promising. I've been waiting for one our talented forum members to put together a kit with the proper bezel, and hardware. My only complication is getting a Shelby bezel with working exhaust mode toggle.

A kit will be tough.. I have looked at it.. there are just too many variables.. so a case by case situation is going to be what it stays..

having had 3 cars now with sync 2, and only had minimal time in a sync 3 car...so far i still prefer the sync 2

Too many different cars... different cars have different dash bezels.. plus the wiring harness to make it plug and play.. plus programming.. because of all the different ACM options.. You have how many different radio bezels.. plus if we made a kit we would want to try and make it beyond just the mustang market.. and that gets hard.. even though people say on the internet they would buy something only if... we all know that being reality is not always true..

We can put a kit together case by case but it wouldn't really be a true kit in the sense of plug it in and be ready to go.. there are 3 different drivetrains.. the list just goes on.. if you aren't familiar with all of what is involved then it may seem easy.. but if it were it would be out there

Yes drive train matters.. because all of this is coded into the apim.. there is a lot of info nation in the apim.. and it has taken many hours to sit down and figure out what byte does what.. I have basically a cars dash on my desk.. I can sit and program it in my home and see what does what...

I have looked into harnesses... and the quantities needed to make things move are ridiculous.. companies don't do orders of 10.. and if they do you wouldn't want to pay for it..

No.. I am not affiliated with them.. I am an individual.. I have been doing this for a while.. I mainly focus on car dealers in my area.. But I have seen questions about this online and wanted to help where I can.

The reason it is 2K is because as of right now you cant find the parts anywhere other than the dealer right now.

Once things start being available on eBay things will be more affordable. Even myself.. I am not going to spend that..

To upgrade from MFT to SYNC 3 you need a new APIM a new touch screen and a GPS antenna and to unplug a part on the can bus line. You have to make sure it gets programmed correctly..

JMR and I have spent a lot of time and money figuring everything out. It isn't easy..

Yes.. two different antennas.. but you can get a GPS antenna for 10$ on eBay.. and you would be ready to go..
