Installed mine today. Here's my write up. I choose to install mine with both 2-sided tape and by drilling and tapping the existing paddles and using 8-32 flat head torx screws x .375" long.
1. My first step was to layout the paddle extensions for drilling. I choose to locate my holes .625" (5/8") down from the top and .375" (3/8") up from the bottom and centered in the cavity.
2. I drilled pilot holes using a .093" (3/32") drill. The paddle extensions are curved so I used an old rifle range bag filled with rice as a base to hold the part steady.
3. After drilling the pilot holes I held each extension in place and marked the location of the holes onto the paddles. I used an automatic center punch but you can use any sharp object to locate the holes.
4. Using the same range bag I drilled the holes out to .187" (3/16") then flip them over and countersunk the holes. I have lots of tools like this but if you don't have a countersink you can use a .250" (1/4") or .312" (5/16") drill. Go slow at this point and continuously check the depth with a screw. The part is aluminum and you can go too deep real easily.
5. Drill the paddles using a .135" drill. You must go slow here or you risk damaging the steering wheel when the drill breaks through the upper end of the paddle. The lower end will only go about .375" (3/8") deep. Don't go deeper or you risk damaging the mechanisms or electronics inside.
6. I then gently tapped the holes with an 8-32 tap. Again go slow and not too deep.
7. After using a bit of double-sided tape I also added a tiny drop of Gorilla Glue to the threads before screwing the extensions into place.
8. The paddles are solid and show no movement. They are one with the original paddles and I have no fear of them coming off.
9. My last impressions of the extensions are good. I like the way they feel, they have a smooth curve to them that follows the steering wheel nicely and they have a slight recurve at the top.
The paddles still shift as easily as before however I notice that as your hand moves higher on the paddle extension the entire paddle mechanism begins to rotate rather than move toward the wheel. Pulling on the top of the extension only rotates the paddle and does not shift.
I like the extensions but will keep an eye out for a full aluminum replacement that is stiffer and doesn't rotate as you move up to the top of the extension.
