From my understanding KenB is still there, I have a friend that's a terminator guru who grew up with Jr and just told me 3 days ago that they had two tuners....Jon and Ken since Sr. has to run the business also.

Technically I was right when I heard he was still there lol, I don't follow my FB feed that close (plus I haven't been on in 2 days) so you're info was slightly more up to date.

Shouldn't matter though, Lund isn't going to hire anyone who can't hold their own in the tuning realm and there's a reason they're the most recommended tuner for mod motor mustangs and the coyote's.

Not saying who is right or who is wrong, but my thought process regarding the 2 tunes would be this:

If you actually have true E85 in the tank, ideally you should see no difference whether you are running an E85 specific tune or a FF tune. Now I am willing to bet that Lund is saying this because maybe they tune the E85 tune a little more aggressive than the FF tune?

Possibly they add in a bit of a safety net on the FF tune so some idiot doesn't go straight from 93 to "E85," beat the shit out of the car and blow it up before giving it time to adjust?

Isnt the question about E85? Not E74 or E81.

I have an E85 tune because I buy E85 from a race shop and it is E85 on the dot every time I test regardless of the season. Most tunes for E85 take the stoich value into account for the differences in the fuel quality already even on power adder cars.

If it took a long time to calculate the new % then I guess that could be plausible but the adjustment can take place by the time you get out of the parking lot, at least far enough adjusted to be close.... unless you are doing burnouts at the pump, I can't see an issue here.

If the Flex tune and E85 tune are different with E85 in the tank (not E80, mind you) then one of those tunes is not optimized for E85, plain and simple.

I think what Lund gave the guy was a brush off answer.....

your E85 tune for pure straight on the dot E85 should be the same thing as a flex tune that reads pure on the dot E85.

all a flex tune does is calculate how far off or where between E0 and E85 the mixture in the tank is, set the stoich afr there (still lambda 1) and adjust the spark on the same scale.

there are other things that should be adjusted but often aren't, like startup airflow, cranking fuel, injection timing, etc etc. this is why so many people have issues starting the car in cold weather. yes, ethanol doesn't fire as well when cold, but you can compensate for that in the tune. most tuners don't know how (some do of course) or don't want to take the time.

E85 lights and burns differently from gasoline as well so injection timing and spark lead should be adjusted differently at light load/part throttle and WOT. you can use more spark at wot, but ethanol needs LESS spark at part throttle.....unfortunately most tuners just add spark, not ideal....does it work ok and most end users don't know the difference? ...........

I've been wondering if the E85 and FF are exactly the same when true E85 is in the tank. I wonder if the FF is a touch more conservative or not.

Maybe Lund is saying E85 is more powerful for E85 just so they can make some more cash lol
