If you're looking for something different to replace the faux gas cap, how about one of these?

Inspired by the Shelby cobra badges, they are the same size and shape as the aforementioned cobra badge, and by the looks of it can be colour matched to your vehicle. Basic colours anyway, not sure about things like Guard. The guys who are doing this have also done a Coyote badge.

They are looking for a minimum of 40 orders before they can proceed so if you are interested have a look here: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33740

Note that the images in the early part of the thread are not the final artwork. The picture above is what will be produced.

The car's a Ford, the plane's North American. To me, the vehicles/craft are sort of legends in their own right. It's just my opinion, but I would think it a bit odd to mix the two, at least visually. I suppose it goes along with the "ground speed" aviation thing on the speedo.

At least you've got the D model there :).

Here are some stories on the supposed link between the two: https://media.ford.com/content/ford...e--no--its-the-ford-mustang-and-one-of-t.html

Anyway, it's your car to personalize as you see fit. Enjoy!

I had far-into-realization plans of doing this to mine:

But in the end I just got a blue one because that's what I actually wanted. But this would have been somewhat epic to plan out and realize if I'm honest. I regret it partially.

Not really that epic a job. Vinyl wrap, and transfer stickers over the vinyl. Quite bold and ballsy

That actually looks pretty good, but why "Bomber Betty"? They make cosmetics!

Sounds like it should be on a B-17 or B-24 in any case, not a fighter. Agree you need a scantily clad cartoon woman for best WWII effect, but you usually see that more on bombers than fighters. Mustangs usually just had their name plastered across the cowling. I like the invasion stripes too.

Why not model on an actual P-51D that really fought in the war?

I love this idea. For those questioning the link between aircraft and the mustang. 10 engineers were bought in to fix the ford motor company all had a Second World War experience, many from the air force. They pulled ford back from the brink of bankruptcy and next thing we know the mustang car arrives. I think the link is strong enough.

By the way, what is the red dot above the rear wheel? If a rising sun, i.e., Japan, I think they used the sun symbol with rays for military purposes, and that's what the American stuck on their planes when they shot one down. There were P-51s in the Pacific in 1944-45 (mainly escorting B-29s, if I recall), but they are most readily associated with the European theatre.

While I like the theme, there is a lot going on, its a lot of decals to cram onto a car.... but I dunno, because its a theme it sort of works, it all fits together.... from the perspective of someone who knows its a P51 theme. Some might not get it haha.

Also I think its a shame to disrupt some of the lines on this car, it really does look its best stock, or with some form of stripe down the middle. All the lines on the car flow horizontally with the direction it travels, to then put a whole heap of colour seams and decals vertically clashes a bit.

Really cool idea if say, the owner was in the American air-force, or it had more significance that way!

I'm going to get one to keep my options open, but haven't decided yet whether I'll put it on. Will probably need to see it in the flesh first. Can't imagine they'll cost heaps.

Name calling over the internet. Whatever next? Did you really expect me to know that? Apologies for stepping on a sensitive topic.

I was merely trying to find what particular real-life aircraft that symbol came from, and had no idea that it was that. I thought you might have just liked the image.

Enjoy your car regardless and I hope your wife likes it too.

So, if we're all going to get to know each other on a name calling basis, would you care to fill us in as to why your wife's nickname is Bomber Betty?
