This may be useful for anyone around my age, 23 - if there are any...

I used Just Car for my SS and they were good. They were good for mods. Just ran a quote and it's a very similar price.

With Adjustable excess at $825 the premium is $1517. Total excess is $1825 + age excess

With excess at $1725 (high but that's what I had before) the premium is $1130. Total excess would be $2725 + age excess

Have you tried others? Maybe Real Insurance and NRMA.

My general "safety" rule for myself is: take a higher premium for the first year, just in case, whenever you're buying a new car. Especially so with a high power vehicle.

Ok...so the cars on the Tamerlane which has docked in Brisbane, next stop Kembla after which it's Melbourne where the car is unloaded. So it is all getting real....and thus have been doing some research on insurance..

I am sure each of us will have different situations, thus different 'best' quotes etc. However I thought I'd call out a couple of gotcha's to avoid ( Remember Insurance by nature is protection for an event that you wish will not happen....so dont get all defensive on I will never need that, instead focus on if that did happen...how will the insurance stack up)

1) New for Old Replacement- A number of companies offer this...which means you can choose market value ( it may appear moot as it's New for Old right?) and save yoursefl some money compared to Agreed value. Most Product Disclosure Statements ( i.e. the small print) I have read have a get out clause where the Insurance company can just pay out the agreed amount, in this case the market amount, if they cannot procure the car locally within 'reasonable' time. .....you know where this is going.

2) Hire Car: Most policies have a hire car policy of upto 21 days. F**K if the way the cars have been delivered are anything to go by, any sizeable repair is going to take forever...so watch out for the limit on that.

3) Excess: As people have pointed out, AAMI, GIO have a minimum excess of 1200( this is because they categorize the stang as a high powered car, which it should be !), others have a different excess if the car is "stolen" once again as it is a high powered car.

4) Choice of repairer and quality of parts used: This is where they pull the quick and dirty on us...most insurers require us to go to their preferred repairer, which could be an issue for some ( i.e. those who are hard to please)

On a different topic, Ford offers NRMA cover for all new car purchases, so dont get suckered in by insurance companies that will offer to throw in road side assistance.

Lastly get a quote online and then give them a call asking them if they can do better than the online quote. Personal sales targets makes people do interesting things.

I'd add to that the fine print around "legal" modifications

eg technically open air filter CAIs are illegal, and aftermarket wheels that increase track width by more than the legal 25mm is a good one

I was told that the Australian-spec Mustang GT is a "high output" vehicle by Suncorp. I replied that it is most certainly not. They're not putting out nearly enough of them to keep us all happy .

This is for market value with new for old replacement for the first two years. After reading [MENTION=14744]ivonovi[/MENTION]'s post above, I am now seriously considering amending my policy to agreed value.

I asked for quote from Shannon's and Suncorp. Shannon quoted around 975 for the cost of car and replace with new car if it's written off in the first year. Suncorp quoted 1600 plus for 79000 agreed value, allowed mods and new for old for the life of the vehicle and unlimited car hire plus some windscreen replacement etc.

I'm surprised at Kaps Shannons' quote. at $975. My quote from Shannons' was $1257, GT Auto, 65% no claim and 60 year old driver with perfect record. I'll be ringing them tomorrow.
