Summer tires at those temps don't inspire confidence, but hey maybe that's what helped avoid disaster.

Funny too because I was driving slow thinking this car isn't as bad as people make it out to be in cold temps and wet roads. Gave it a quarter of throttle in 4th gear at 45 and almost totaled it

I think its irresponsible for Ford to sell the PP with summer tires. Very few owners are going to push their car hard enough to take advantage of summer tires (in the summer), and more than a very few are going to do something like OP. Since PP tires are expensive, lots of people will resist changing them to A/S or winter tires. Figuring they will be "careful". That's assuming the even know the difference.

Well you have to know what your buying. They sell Mustangs without summer tires for those who don't want them. The Performance Package wouldn't add much to the car's performance without the summer tires and if you're somewhere you can't use summer tires, the Performance Package isn't much use. So bottom line: if you can never use summer tires, the Performance Package is a waste, if you can use them some of the time, you will need two sets of tires regardless of what's on the car from the factory. If you're buying a PP car when summer tires won't cut it, put the winter tires on right off the bat.

I'm still in shock of what happened, but I'll explain. About an hour ago I left for work, got on the highway, cruising in fourth gear around 45 mph. Truck in front of me in the left lane, nobody in the center lane and bus in the right lane. The light go yellow and the truck slams on the brakes in front of me, mind you guys its 20 degrees and snowing and I have the performance pack. Anyways, I swerve to the center lane and give it some gas and the car just loses all traction and starts to spin to the left almost like a rainbow around the truck and heads straight for the guard rail. I slammed on the gas and turned the wheel to the right and the car just whipped to the right and did a 360 before coming to a rest. The bus driver pulled over and stopped and I pulled off to a parking lot to catch my breath. I've had this car for 4 days. Still can't believe what just happened.

So glad you are okay. A good set of all seasons can be had for about $600.00. I run AS Goodyear eagle sport 20's in on my PP. I also posted earlier this year about tire rack.com and some cheap lightweight 20's I picked up just for the winter. I paid 99.00 each for Hothckis sport wheels and they fit the PP no problem they are 20 by 8.5


I am close to VA beach so snow does come but random and rare but even today rain and sleet was here and the all seasons did the trick. If you can wait a month or two then Blizzak and other snow tires are available as well but are the least expensive to buy in the spring or end of winter .... but that is ok because you will have your originals stored and ready to put back in service by that that time Stay safe!

I spun mine in the rain about 2 weeks after buying it. I'm coming from an AWD bimmer where you really had to throw it into a turn to make her slide and I'll tell you what I was just about cleaning a mess off my brand new suede seats.

Pnasty...doesn't the California have all season tires? Any idea what the outside temp was? I'm getting ready to order a Ruby Red CS myself and the one I saw had all seasons on it? Just wondering how good (or bad) those tires actually are.

Agreed.... caveat empor or buyer beware. The dealer will not promote summer tires or point it out on the sticker. Hell my neighbor who has a Vette was the one to warn me about summer tires and how when it drops below 30 here they can chip or tear up. So i quickly purchased a set of alternative tires for Dec to Feb.

Would I have still bought the PP had I known about summer tires? Hell yeah... because I still wanted the gauges and the gears and the black wheels. I hate being left in the dust.

As you can tell I did not research the PP specifically..I actually just wanted a red 2015 GT manual with leather.. It was my dealer that sent me apic of a " blue GT with black wheels and its got the performance pack" It was April 2015 and summer tires then were right on time!

I unexpectedly drifted a corner a couple weeks into ownership as well. ~50* in a very light misting rain on the PP Perellis.

Now with Yokohama Advan A/S's on it, I had to get pretty stupid to lose traction in a half inch of snow. Normal driving produced zero traction control issues.

You mean irresponsible of the buyers!
Always easy to put blame on someone else instead of taking responsibility!
People know that they are getting summer tires with PP and should change their tires to snow tires in the snow states. Especially with RWD cars!

If people drive with summer tires in winter I have no sympathy what so ever and if they DARE try to sue Ford? I say throw it out of court before it's HEARD!

Every new Mustang comes with an owners packet. it tells us about the tires in the owners manual and the tire manual.

Better yet, get the 18" foundry wheels and put winter tires on them. It's best to have smaller diameter (for cost) but also a narrower tire for winter driving.
