Headers Install

So I've seen quite a few people say removing the battery and battery tray opens up alot of space on the passenger side for headers. I took mine out, am I missing something? I really don't see how it helps. Does everyone else have that black panel?

Looks like that bracket/brace is also in the way. I did not remove any of that during my install however it looks like it may help.

That "black panel" is what needs to be removed. LOL

I did my own headers and didn't remove the battery "box". The bolts that are hard to get to are not any easier to get to with the battery box out.

I only removed my battery box when I was finished and needed to remove the A/C bolt that holds the A/C lines along the frame as I should have removed this bolt while the headers were out of the way when I removed the OEM manifolds.

When the car is off just turn the wheel until it clicks. Again, not really a problem when undoing the steering knuckle because you just remove the bolts ALL THE WAY OUT because they run in a groove that keeps the steering shaft from backing out and then just slightly pull upwards and the joint and shaft separate. Again, back the two bolts at the steering knuckle all the way out. I take a sharpie and make a mark on the shaft and knuckle to be able to go back the same way it came out.

I did mine on jack stands and I honestly don't remember if I locked mine or not. I've done this so many times I don't bother making sure the wheel is locked since I mark the shaft as said. I'll keep checking this thread if you run into problems.

Can someone link a detailed write-up or illustration on the exact steps that need to be taken to get this job done? (coming from a novice) I am thinking about attempting this with a buddy who has a bit more automotive experience, if you will, than myself. I searched this forum and couldnt quite find what i was looking for. Yes, i have watched the CJ video, but they kind of skip over a decent amount of stuff, i feel like. Plus, they use a lift lol. Lucky bastards. Thanks in advance.

Thanks! We got the passenger side pretty much done now. Putting the engine brace and starter back in now. I'll be sure to mark the knuckle, that's coming up.

Yea that would be very helpful if there was a write up, and I totally agree CJ skips over stuff and makes it look super easy to get everything out.

The steering doesn't lock unless you have the security package.

Tip: DO NOT remove the motor mounts located on the frame rails. Why CJ did that I have no clue:shrug:. Just remove the actual bracket that is bolted to the engine block.

Is supporting the engine not required then? Started this late today and gotten as far as removing the passenger cat before running out of daylight.

I still supported it, you will also need to lift the engine to get the bracket off.

Thanks, I didn't remove the mounts. I can't see any extra space being provided by that lol

So almost done with the divers side but one of the bolts is cross threading and the very beginning. I don't know if I should leave it out or continue to force it. It will go in forcibly.
