Step 1 probably should be to sell the convertible and buy a hardtop.

I would also suggest an older solid rear axle Mustang for straight line stuff.
I was going to say the same thing about the hard top, but OP is from Florida so he needs the soft top for when he's...
Rollin' in his 5.0
With his ragtop down so his hair can blow
The girlies on standby
Waving just to say, "Hi"
Did he stop?
No, he just drove by

Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I bust a left and I’m heading to the next block

I drove a rental down A1A, BEACHFRONT AVENUE! on vacation and that convinced me that I needed a Mustang in my life.

Edit-true story.

I will hijack it even further..make sure you get a 3 quarter race cam also.
Still waiting on someone to explain that term.
I remember 3/4 cams from back in the days of my 36 Ford with 53 Merc flathead. It had something to do with lift and duration, but I don't remember much else, other than it had less lift and duration than a full race cam. It made that flathead sound wicked as hell... still couldn't beat anyone though. It ran high 14s at about 90 mph on a good day.

I think that term died when hydraulic lifters became common.

Well to me 3/4 is 750 so can't be duration and a .750 lift would be brutal :)
Not saying your wrong I just always never understood that term.

maybe it meant Crane ( not sure if they are still around ) make a full race cam and one thats a little tamer is called a 3/4 Race?

My 427 FE was a great combo and was fast but I lucked up on my cam choice, was a local autoparts store that did a lot of drag racing and I asked about a cam and they said " Bob over there races FE lets ask him" and he said a cam Dynamics 306 ( if I remember ) and then said you will want the lower model which was the 286.

I think the 3/4 cam in my flathead was Isky, as were the heads. Crane cams would have been used a lot in 265 and 283 Chevies. We used a full-race cam in a 265 E/GS car. I sure would not have wanted to drive that on the street. It was only happy with your foot to the floor.
