I know this thread is 5 years old but for the new posts asking, check the oil pressure sensor just above the filter. I’ve seen several back out a bit and create this exact issue. The oil pressure sensor is marked with a white line indicator that will show if it’s backed out at all.
Thanks I'll look for the line when I follow up. I didn't see any oil trail from the sensor but there was oil on the block below it.

For now I cleaned it all up and snugged the filter up.

I know but OP didn't have photos.
Your photos look like the leak source is behind the oil cooler and it's running down the bottom slope of the cooler housing. If it was just coming from the filter gasket the oil wouldn't be all the way up that bottom slope.

Now that you've cleaned it up, go drive it a little (or just let it idle until fully hot might do it) and inspect again. If the whole bottom slope is oily again it would confirm its coming from behind the cooler.

Hey HeelToeHero, I took it into my local ford service shop and they fixed it for free. It took a week but all good. Turns out it was a faulty adapter.

No issues with service writers denying warranties or anything.

Good luck!

I agree.
That said, the cooler is held to the block via the oil filter adaptor bolt. If that bolt has loosened even slightly the seal between the cooler and block might be leaking. Tightening the filter may have snugged the cooler up against the block enough to stop the leak.

My leak was pretty slow I think. I took it for a drive last night and there doesn't seem to be oil now but I'll climb under the car again with it running at some point.

If this has stopped the leak I'll need to check the torque on the adaptor bolt next oil change.

Update. 99% sure it's the pressure sensor. Will bring it to the dealer for documentation and resolution. Thanks a lot for the help.

Happy to hear you seemed to have found the source and that it’s nothing serious. Dealer will likely remove sensor, apply thread sealant or something, torque to spec, and call it good. Easy fix 👍

Very common issue across all S550 platforms… Many have had this very issue where the sensor is loose and was not screwed in enough during assembly, and engine vibes make it loose.

You could probably actually twist it to tighten and it may save you a trip to the Dealer…

I agree but I'm near the end of my powertrain warranty. I'd like to make sure there isn't a secondary leak and also get it on record in case the issue comes back after the car comes out of storage.
