The reason why labor charges are so high from dealers, is because removing and replacing the oil filter is a pain in the ass!

There's a trap door under the filter, but it's useless as there's pipes/wires running thru the middle of it.

You have to remove the passenger-side wheel, bend and pull out the plastic splash guard, and (hopefully) unscrew it by hand.

This results in spilled oil everywhere, even with a plastic bag wrapped around it.

Ford must have known this would happen, as they've got a spill shute directly under the filter, but it still makes a mess.

This is by far the worst filter placement I have ever seen, and I've done a lot of services.

I did mine today. You don't have to remove the wheel but it sure as hell ain't easy.
It was lucky it was hand tight cos there's no way in hell you'd get a filter wrench of any kind in there. Or you might get it in but have no way to swing it!?
I don't know if you can see in this pic but there's a drop of oil on the tip of the drip guard. So really you just open this flap to allow spillage to get out.

It's through this flap that where I put my hand through to unscrew the filter. Luckily the filter was just hand tight!?

Bit of a height difference here!?! But I was able to fit it :)

I used Valvolene synthetic FE 5W30. It was the only oil in stock in Autodumb that met the spec. It happened to be on special for 45 bucks a bottle.

Old mate Enoch put together an excellent video of a DIY oil change (including oil filter).

It appears that my 17 model has a different flap than his? It's already outside on mine.
And I gotta get one of those filter sockets!

Hey Andy,
I saw the GT350 intake swap vid. Have you got a thread talking about this? I want to know about the performance and if you maintained bottom end torque with it and some other things?
Cheers,
Pete.

The oil message is to show service is due. Whilst the scheduled servicing is at 15K or 12 months, they have a cover all statement in the service manual that if driven under severe or "Special Operating Conditions" may require additional service.

Those who are getting the message at 5K are classified as "Extreme"... well done! :clap2:
